Location 

 

This position will primarily report in- person to our Airport Office Building located at Denver International Airport. There may be flexibility for hybrid days based on the needs of the business, however, this position will be overseeing operational teams that report 24/7/356 to the airport.

 

What You’ll Do

The Senior Director of Operations will lead and direct the line functions of the Airport Operations Division at the Denver International Airport, and report to the Senior Vice President for Airport Operations. The line functions consist of the following sections of the division: Airport Operation Services, Airport Security, and Terminal Operations. The leaders of each section will report to this position.

This position will be responsible for the oversight of the performance of these sections as related to the goals and objectives of the airport's strategic plan, managing the budget and expenses, developing, and implementing projects and programs that will improve their performance, and serving as a liaison to the airport stakeholders such as the airlines, Customs and Border Protection, and the Transportation Security Administration.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the performance of the sections as related to the airport's Strategic Plan, and the associated airport and division level key performance indicators (KPIs). Develop and implement strategies for optimizing the sections' performance with the goal of meeting or exceeding the established KPI performance benchmarks
  • Develop and implement policies, programs, and practices that will utilize our human and financial resources as efficiently as possible, and effectively manage operating costs. Evaluate new technologies that will improve operational performance
  • Serve as a liaison to airport stakeholders such as the airlines, Customs and Border Protection, and the Transportation Security Administration and collaborate with stakeholders in planning and coordinating activities that are essential to the management of the airport
  • Lead the sections with a focus on the delivery of superior customer service and ensure that staff is sufficiently knowledgeable and trained regarding emergency response protocols
  • Manage issues that arise regarding airport operations during both regular business hours, and off hours and weekend periods.  Resolve operational and management issues, make decisions that include multiple perspectives and solve underlying problems. Contribute to the development and implementation of sections' work plans based on the annual and strategic plans
  • Manage the development of the annual budget for areas of responsibility and direct the section leaders in the performance of their sections against budgeted goals. Ensure all budgets remain at or below established targets
  • Coach, mentor, and challenge staff. Champion continuous improvement, including devising new strategies and new opportunities. Lead staff development initiatives that include training and development and succession planning and set performance expectations and evaluation standards for all levels of employees
  • Direct and manage snow removal activities for staff
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, opportunities, and challenges.
  • Demonstrate personal accountability and responsibility and holds staff to same standards

What you’ll offer:

We are looking for someone with some or all the following skills and experience: ​

  • Three plus years management experience leading airport operations related functions and teams
  • Knowledge of and experience with technologies and information systems
  • Knowledge of and experience with TSA 1542 regulations
  • Experience managing O&M Contracts
  • Knowledge of various types of contracts, techniques for contracting or procurement, and contract negotiation and administration
  • Experience with the Incident Command System (ICS) and the National Incident Management System (NIMS)
  • Experience in building collaborative relationships with Customs and Boarder Protection & Transportation Security Administration
  • Knowledge of safety and security practices sufficient to be able to coordinate and provide security
  • Knowledge of public relation strategies sufficient to be able to manage public relations and facilitate information to the public through the media
  • Skill in developing an independent vision, investment, or course of action to achieve the organization’s goals
  • Experience in building collaborative relationships with first responders
  • Strong education or experience background

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration Management, Aviation Management or a related field.
  • Experience Requirement: Five (5) years of experience at the type and level of functional or operational management, which must have included management of subordinate supervisors.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: Two (2) years of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
  • License/Certifications: None
