Job Summary:The University of Colorado (CU) School of Medicine is seeking a talented full-time Social Media Program Manager. This position will create, manage, and schedule content for the CU School of Medicine's social media platforms, ensuring that content is compelling, accurate, relevant, current, and consistent with CU brand guidelines.

This position requires exceptional attention to detail, the ability to stay on task, and the ability to work with varying levels of staff and faculty to gather information, write, design, and distribute content appropriately. This position is a hybrid in-person and remote work model, and it requires excellent project management abilities in a fast-paced environment.

The Social Media Program Manager will be a contributing member of the CU School of Medicine communications team supporting the goals of the Dean’s Office and working to connect and strengthen the communications between the school and its departments, divisions, and centers.

Social Media:

  • Develops social media strategy for Facebook, X, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, LinkedIn, and YouTube, to promote the mission and vision of the School of Medicine.
  • Produces and maintains the social media editorial content calendar, which includes daily social media content to build meaningful connections with audiences.
  • Responds promptly to messages and comments on social media platforms.
  • Monitors social media to manage mentions of the School of Medicine and engages in relevant online discussions.
  • Generates photos, social media videos, designs, and infographics for social media.
  • Develops, implements, and tracks the effectiveness of social media campaigns.
  • Covers campuswide events including graduation, matriculation, and Match Day for the School of Medicine.  
  • Creates and manages social media boosting budget to drive optimum results.
  • Collaborates with Communications Shared Services social media leads to support social media efforts across departments, divisions, and centers.

Collaboration and Best Practices:

  • Monitors the social media landscape and educates team members, researchers, faculty, staff, and students on the latest trends and best practices.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with faculty, staff, trainees, and students within the School of Medicine.
  • Collaborate with colleagues at CU Anschutz Medical Campus, UCHealth, Children’s Hospital Colorado, Veterans Affairs, and other partners as appropriate.
  • Identify and implement best practices regarding communications, strategies, and tools.
  • Attend campus communications meetings as needed.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in marketing, communications, public or media relations, journalism, business, or other related fields.
  • 3-5 years of experience working in professional social media management, or related communications, public relations, and marketing field(s), preferably in health care or higher education.
    • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with project management, prioritization, timelines, and ensuring on-time deliverables.
  • Additional training/professional development in the following areas: social media strategy and implementation, writing for the web, search engine optimization, content management systems, HTML, and video editing.
  • Communications experience in a university, academic medical center, and/or large hospital system environment.
  • Experience with graphic design, photography, and videography.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA policies and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Exceptional independent writing skills and experience developing clear, concise, and key message-focused communications.
  • Experienced in graphic design and video editing for multiple social media platforms.
  • Excellent knowledge of editing and grammar, including AP style.
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently capture the voice of a brand/person.
  • Highly organized and dependable; able to multitask, working quickly and effectively to manage numerous deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated creativity and problem-solving skills.
  • Dedicated to producing excellent work and excellent customer service.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
