We are seeking a Senior Communications Specialist to help plan, research, write, and edit internal and external communications to convey AWWA strategic messages to targeted audiences. Lead communications programs and projects that promote AWWA water policy and leadership to members, the water sector, decision-makers, media and the public.
 
This is not 100% remote job. AWWA runs on a hybrid reporting schedule with at least 3 days in the Denver office and 2 days of remote reporting.
 
Essential Functions

  • As editor of member e-mail publication, plan, write and deliver newsletters to members; assign and edit contributed content.
  • Manage freelance contributors as needed.
  • Publish articles through a content management system and on the website.
  • Write and edit other targeted member communications, advocacy reports, strategic communications plans and member advisories as needed.
  • Develop, write and edit press releases, speaking points, speeches, letters and articles for water consumers, public officials, the media and other stakeholders as requested.
  • Develop, implement and manage communications projects within deadlines to improve distribution of AWWA messages into targeted markets including, but not limited to, consumer and trade publications.
  • Contribute to AWWA social media team including:  
    • Update and monitor AWWA social media platforms.
    • Develop social media posts for strategic communications, media relations and member engagement purposes.
    • Participate in setting social media strategy.
  • Participate on cross-functional teams as required to ensure communications objectives and messages are consistent.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned including but not limited to:
    • Attend team meetings, video conferences, and training as needed.
    • Know, understand, and follow employee guidelines, employment policies, and department or company procedures.

 
Qualifications
 
Education, Certifications or Formal Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related discipline required.

 
Work Experience:

  • Minimum of four (4) years’ communications or publications and/or reporting experience required demonstrating strong writing and editing skills, ability to communicate ideas and programs clearly, and knowledge of media relations/social media strategies.
  • Demonstrated skill in common social media platforms preferred.
  • Water sector experience and/or working with government affairs preferred.
  • Experience working with HTML-based email templates and websites preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; understanding of social media platforms required.

  
Compensation/Benefits
Pay is dependent upon qualifications; Pay range is targeted between $76,190 – $87,075 per year and is paired with a comprehensive benefits package that includes:
