We are seeking an experienced Senior Public Relations Specialist for our US Head Office located in Denver, CO.

The senior public relations specialist will develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for PCL’s media and public relations efforts that align with the company’s overall business objectives. We are looking for someone who can support the day-to-day media relations efforts, has strong relationships with key media personnel and channels, and can analyze media data and trends to increase earned media and enhance PCL Construction’s visibility across the country.

Reporting to the manager, U.S. Communications, responsibilities will include:

•Develop and implement the company’s U.S. wide media and public relations strategy through a comprehensive plan that includes SMART objectives and aligns with business objectives.

•Proactively creates and distributes company news through traditional and innovative methods including media pitches, news releases, videos, podcasts, advisories, talking points, and crisis statements ensuring content is error-free, on-brand and in AP style.

•Create and manage an editorial calendar to maximize media coverage and exposure.

•Work closely with subject matter experts to communicate new business initiatives to external audiences, including media and community organizations. •Train employees on effective media presence and prepare spokespeople for media interactions. May act as a spokesperson occasionally.

•Develop and maintain strong working relationships with the local, national and trade media to increase positive media coverage.

•Secure features, stories and appearances in national, regional and local media outlets, both print and web-based.

•Identify and coordinate opportunities for industry and organization thought leadership, including sponsored content and relevant speaking opportunities. •Work closely with the manager, U.S. Communications to support the development and execution of crisis plans, including drafting and issuing crisis statements, delivering crisis communication training, and developing crisis communication resources.

•Establishes and continuously updates media monitoring system to track and measure media presence against internal benchmarks, as well as coordinates with media monitoring vendors.

•Keeps updated with emerging media trends and nontraditional media channels to update PR strategy accordingly.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or other related field.

  • 7-10 years of experience in a corporate or agency setting.

  • Expert in AP writing style and superb verbal, writing, editing and proofreading skills.

  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing PR strategies and programs.

  • Experience developing and implementing measurable communication plans (a measurable communication plan is required with application.)

  • Prior experience handling high-profile media issues, public relations crises and events.

  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at one time.

  • Collaborative and team-focused with the ability to develop and sustain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Excellent communicator and creative thinker, with an ability to use both data and intuition to inform decisions.

  • Ability to work independently, managing major projects.

  • Exhibit a high degree of professionalism.

  • Excellent judgement and ability to prioritize multiple projects.

  • Willingness to travel and work with teams across the U.S. and Canada. Travel will account for approximately 10-20% of the position.
