Job Summary 

Reporting to the CEO, the Vice President of Marketing & Communications (VP) will be responsible for the design, implementation, and management of BGCMD’s internal and external marketing, communications, branding, and public relations. The VP works closely with the BGCMD Corporate Officers Team and across functional departments to integrate and execute marketing and communication strategies to enhance BGCMD’s public relations and increase visibility of our Clubs and services within the Denver metro community. 

The VP’s responsibility will center on BGCMD’s strategic planning and strengthening the organization’s capacity to fulfill our vision. We believe all kids have the opportunity to achieve their greatest potential. In addition, the VP will deliver strong outcomes within a culture that embraces inclusion, learning and continuous improvement. The VP serves as a primary liaison with external partners and media contacts to ensure the visibility of our mission and services. The VP must have the ability to quickly gain the trust and confidence of colleagues at all levels. 

The VP will be a leader in the truest sense: visionary, a builder, innovator, empathetic, and focused on results to enhance and optimize BGCMD’s operations. 

 

Role & Responsibilities 

Executive Leadership 

  • Serves as a critical member of BGCMD’s senior leadership team. Collaborates across the executive team (CEO, CDO, COO, CHRO and CFO) to facilitate and achieve the vision, mission, and strategic goals of the organization. 
  • Establishes credibility throughout the organization as an effective developer and implementer of solutions to business challenges. 
  • Serves as a critical contributor to align BGCMD’s organization voice with our diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) strategy and initiatives. 

Strategic Planning 

  • Develops an integrated strategic marketing and communications plan to advance BGCMD’s brand and broaden awareness of our programs and priorities with key stakeholders. 
  • Leads crisis communications with the Crisis Response Team aligned with the Crisis Communications Plan. 
  • Leads and collaborates with the CHRO on internal communications efforts to keep employees educated, informed, and connected to the mission. 
  • Develops strategies and executes internal communications related to major change initiatives, crisis situations, and other strategic communication priorities. 
  • Leads and collaborates with the CDO on external relations and annual campaign initiatives. 

Team Management  

  •  Develop pricing and other budgeting strategies, such as how to acquire and retain customers and manage their data, for marketing or services. 
  • Leads a team by providing support, coaching, and feedback, supervision, and guidance to ensure a high performing team. 
  • Manages team performance with clear performance objectives and enforcement of excellent execution of all initiatives. 
  • Establishes and continuously evaluates the department’s performance metrics, team structure, and annual plans for continuous improvement. 
  • Provides team members with professional and personal growth through ongoing talent management practices including leadership development, skill development, and position-specific articles/books/training. 

Brand Management 

  • Provides continuous brand evaluation/analysis to define current impact and develop refined brand strategies to ensure BGCMD's identity as a thought leader and pacesetter in providing equitable access in before/after school programs supporting youth development. 
  • Enhances and maintains BGCMD’s brand standards and compliance organization wide. 
  • Conducts regular assessments of brand utilizing quantitative/qualitive metrics to identify strengths and areas of improvement towards brand equity, perception and awareness. 
  • Leads and provides internal education and training on brand standards, use and compliance. 

Public Relations 

  • Collaborates with the CEO and CDO to plan and execute publicity campaigns. 
  • Develops relationships with media organizations and important influencers and solicits positive media placements. 
  • Serves as a designated spokesperson and speaks on behalf of the organization in media interviews as needed. 
  • Tracks campaign success and media coverage. 

Marketing and Communications 

  • Lead the development and execution of comprehensive marketing and communications strategies that elevate the BGCMD brand, increase visibility, and drive engagement with donors, partners, and the broader community. 
  • Oversee all digital and traditional marketing channels, public relations, and content creation, ensuring alignment with the BGCMD's mission and objectives to maximize impact and outreach. 
  • Collaborate with the Corporate Officers Team to drive strategic initiatives, manage crisis communications, and cultivate relationships with media, partners, and advocates to enhance the organization's reputation and support fundraising efforts.  
  • Collaborates closely with all functional departments to lead and evaluate marketing and communication priorities, activities, and identify opportunities to improve internal and external metrics. 
  • Partners with the CHRO and DEI Committee to develop and execute BGCMD’s DEI related communications internally and externally. 
  • Partners with the Resource Development team in the fulfillment of national, regional, and local sponsorship benefits. 
  • Oversees and evaluates marketing and communication activities and identifies opportunities for continuous quality improvement to drive results. 
  • Oversees the design, development and distribution of all marketing collateral used to promote the organization’s programs and priorities, including recruitment of youth.
  • Oversees the design, development, and use of all digital content used to promote the organization’s priorities, which includes program and funding priorities, in collaboration with the CEO and CDO. 

 

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning in marketing, public relations, communications, education, human or social services or a related field of study. 
  • 8 years of directly related work experience and/or coursework in marketing, public relations, communications, education, human or social services or a related field of work/study. 5 of these years must include serving in a senior management position with supervisory responsibilities. 
  • Candidates may meet the minimum qualifications and requirements by possessing an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Minimum five (5) years of work experience in non-profit agency operations, primarily in marketing with responsibility for communications, including crisis communications, and exposure to resource development strongly preferred. 
  • Excellent internal and external customer service focus. 
  • Proven track record in developing and executing successful marketing campaigns. 
  • Previous supervisory experience including budget and project management. 
  • Multilingual literacy/fluency and/or international experience a plus. 
  • Proficient user of MS Office and Outlook. Experience with RE NXT preferred.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Board members, administrative staff, Club staff, volunteers, community groups and other related agencies.

  • Strong understanding of brand management and market analysis. 
  • Strong project management skills and proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • Previous supervisory experience and budget management. 
  • Strong multicultural competency and awareness with ability to build cross-cultural relationships. 
  • Multilingual literacy/fluency and/or international experience a plus. 
  • Proficient user of MS Office and Outlook. Experience with RE NXT preferred.  
  • Ability to take a consultative approach and maintain a strong solutions-focus that allows the identification of problems and drives innovation. 
  • Ability to leverage critical thinking and problem solving to develop strong solutions for the business. 
  • Ability to be adaptable, flexible and effectively manage the people side of change. 
  • Ability to balance patience with urgency given the demands of this multi-faceted role. 
  • The successful candidate must be able to work closely with others in an office environment, and use a variety of office equipment including computer, telephone, and/or other equipment. 
  • The ability to read and write is necessary to complete reports and properly document programs and organizational data.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position oversees two employees: Director of Marketing & Communications and Marketing Manager. The Director of Marketing & Communications directly reports to this position.  
  • Provides oversight of contract work  
  • This position is responsible for completing midyear and annual evaluations for each direct report staff member. 
  • BGCMD Managers are expected to meet regularly with direct reports to ensure that staff members are giving and receiving feedback, organizational and professional development goals are progressing, and are receiving the support and resources to be successful.
  • Plan, prioritize, assign and monitor workflow and staffing levels to ensure the quality and quantity of work meets standards and deadlines for deliverables to ensure goals and objectives 

 

Compliance Requirements

  • Candidates must be able to pass an annual background test, pre-employment drug test and reference checks.
  • A valid driver's license and ability to be insured under the company's insurance policy is also a requirement.
  • They may be required to lift supplies, materials, and collateral materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Outdoor work and light physically demanding activities may be required on occasion.

 

In-Office and Remote Work

This position works primarily at the Program Support Center Offices but may occasionally work from other BGCMD facilities as necessary. BGCMD employees may work from home one day per week between Tuesday through Thursday. All remote work and other flexible work arrangements must be approved prior to implementation.
