JOB SUMMARY:  The Director or Senior Director of Public Relations and Communications will develop and implement a strategic regional/local media relations program to (1) enhance brand awareness, affinity and interest, (2) drive new community awareness and traffic, (3) protect company and brand reputation and (4) strengthen quality of internal communications. Position will cultivate relations with key regional/local consumer & business reporters (broadcast, print, digital) and garner significant media coverage.  
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
 
Brand Awareness, Affinity and Interest
  • Position KB Home as the brand of choice by reinforcing unique value proposition of design innovation, personalization, partnership and affordability.
  • Develop regional/local spokespeople strategy; manage spokespeople opportunities (bios, briefing documents, talking points, training materials).
  • Plan, coordinate and lead PR events (news conferences, groundbreaking activities, media tours).
  • Manage media inquiry responses; proactively secure reginal/local consumer and business stories.
New Community Awareness and Traffic
  • Build anticipation for KB Home new home communities by highlighting key selling features and pricing.
  • Manage media inquiry responses; proactively secure regional/local stories via interviews, advertorials and press releases.
Company and Brand Reputation
  • Navigate and minimize reputational risk by showcasing KB Home’s industry-leading commitment to customer obsession.
  • Anticipate possible crisis scenarios and develop strategic plans to proactively respond or be prepared for such situations when needed.
  • Work closely with internal and external resources to coordinate strategy and response on specific reginal/local issues.
Internal Communications
  • Increase quality and frequency of internal communications to keep all employees well-informed; showcase holiday messages, company financial performance, awards, customer service recognition and significant company milestones.
  • Spearhead multiple approaches to communicate effectively with employees including internal releases, newsletters, webinars and email blasts.
Performance Management and Development
  • Mentor Public Relations and Communications personnel.
  • Assist in establishing performance goals for the team and continuously monitor and communicate results.
  • Identify team performance gaps and development areas and offer training or coaching solutions to narrow the gap; ensure all training occurs.
  • Participate in regular team meetings to discuss goals & strategy and share best practices.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
 
Education/Certifications/Licenses   
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing and/or Public Relations, or related discipline required
  • Master’s Degree in related discipline preferred
Experience 
  • Director: 6-7 years of in-house corporate or agency experience in Public Relations (national, regional and/or local)
  • Sr. Director:  8-9 years in-house corporate or agency experience in Public Relations (national, regional, and/or local)
  • Prior experience in Real Estate industry preferred, preferrably in Residential Homebuilding
  • Journalism backgound is a plus
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 
  • A strong understanding of strategic, focused and integrated communication programs and how this helps to build and strengthen the brand and reach key stakeholders (media, influencers, customers, investors, partners, government officials)
  • Demonstrated track record of using communications to help drive business results
  • Expertise in developing and managing key media relationships across national and regional/local levels as well as business, consumer and trade categories
  • Prior experience handling high-profile media issues, public relations crises and events
  • Strong ability in developing executive positioning programs, including writing speeches and presentations and preparing executives for speaking engagements.  Exceptional writing skills and ability to adapt/use various leadership communication styles.
  • Strong leadership abilities, including strategic planning, being results oriented, and a strong team motivator
  • Ability to develop strong relationships across the organization; strong team player
  • A broad understanding of marketing, advertising and public relations, and how these efforts should be integrated and coordinated
  • A demonstrated ability to work creatively and cooperatively in a fast-paced environment and to respond immediately to issues
  • Strong verbal and written communication, with the ability to take complex concepts and communicate succinctly and accurately
  • Strong business acumen 
  • Conflict and change management skills

  • Conduct business in a professional and ethical manner to potential buyers and external brokers to reinforce goodwill and profitability for the company  
  • 25-30% domestic travel required
