Non-Profit Entity:                       Consumer Health Advocacy & Information Network (CHAIN)

Reports To:                                Dominic DelPapa, Principal, iQu Strategies

Compensation Range:               $30,000 – $36,000/Annually

Summary:

CHAIN delivers programs and information that connect and engage consumers with cost-effective, innovative, healthcare solutions in multiple states across the U.S.

The Executive Director (ED,) in partnership with CHAIN’s management consultant, develops, plans, and directs the policies and objectives of the Consumer Health Advocacy & Information Network, to meet short and long-term strategic goals. He/she provides the overall vision, leadership, strategy, and execution of all programs and initiatives. The Executive Director identifies and delivers value to stakeholders and funders.

The ED defines and demonstrates the organization’s vision and strategy while executing multiple high impact initiatives to achieve overall goals.

In addition, the ED ensures appropriate governance and regulatory controls to maintain compliance with rules, regulations and laws pertaining to a 501 (c)(4) non-profit. The ED oversees the work of subcontractors in the areas of marketing, media relations and others.

The ED is responsible for a full range of organizational activities including, but not limited to, coordination of the program of work, organizational structure and procedures, recruitment and motivation of an Advisory Council, community relationships, outreach, promotion of policy activities and interpretation of CHAIN’s vision, mission and policy work to the public, policymakers, investors, and others.

The Executive Director represents the organization with partner organizations, public agencies and officials, various organizations and groups, and with the general public, all requiring judgment and tact to foster good community/ relationships.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Responsible for implementation of the organization’s strategic plan, keeping it up-to-date, monitoring progress on the plan and providing periodic updates to funders.
  • Working in partnership with the management consultant to advance innovative solutions to the rising cost of healthcare for the consumer. This includes designing and implementing an aggressive advocacy program that focuses on outcomes for consumers.
  • Providing guidance and support to sub-contractors working on projects, from concept to completion.
  • Fostering community connections and a sense of common purpose by bringing people together through both remote and in-person programming.
  • Research and analyze state, regional and national healthcare initiatives for impact on consumers.
  • Cultivate collaborative relationships with key stakeholders similarly engaged in CHAIN’s work.
  • Maintain the financial viability of the organization including identifying sources of income, developing methods for generating revenues, overseein the development of the annual budget, and ensuring adherence to this budget. The E.D. will also serve as the lead driver of fund-raising efforts and identifies potential contributors through knowledge of the community and development of relationships that encourage financial support.

 

  • Recruit and engage the Advisory Council through personal connections, opportunities to meet, and by asking for review and support of CHAIN’s legislative and policy positions.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required

Experience:

  • At least three (3) years of experience in upper-level policy advocacy and organizational development.
  • Knowledge of the IRS requirements and legal limitations of a 501 (c)(4) non-profit organization.

Key Skills:

Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly in both written and verbal communication. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries in a diplomatic manner. Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on controversial or complex topics to public groups, government officials and/or potential donors. Skill in communicating with and cultivating key stakeholders in the areas of policymaking, healthcare policy, legislative advocacy, and other healthcare policy entities. Executive Director must have demonstrated experience in strong relationship-building ability and be politically astute.

Position specifications:

  • Part time, contract position with no benefits. Nothing in this contract prohibits contractor from working on other portions of their business, including accepting other clients.
