Job Summary:
This position will work with the Lab Director and Lab Board in managing the overall operations of the crime lab. The Assistant Lab Director will report to the Greeley Police Department Investigations Commander and will directly supervise City of Greeley employees assigned to the regional crime lab. This position oversees the daily activities of the laboratory personnel, and assists the Director in managing quality control, maintaining lab accreditation, and performing administrative functions
necessary in the operation of the laboratory. The Assistant Lab Director is assigned to act as the Lab Director in their absence.
Education, Certifications, Licenses, Equipment Skills:
Minimum Qualification Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College or University.
• Six (6) years of related experience.
• Three (3) years of specific experience with principles and methods of operating a modern forensic science laboratory including work organization, fiscal management, budgeting, program planning and implementation, and managing laboratory casework.
OR
• Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job,
AND
• Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
• Competence and testing of accreditation standards associated with ISO: IEC 17025:2017.
• Knowledge of Northern Colorado Regional Forensic Laboratory Board and Colorado Bureau of Forensic Services protocols and accreditation standards for the various forensic disciplines.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Knowledge of general clerical procedures, practices, or operations as required.
• Knowledge of complicated forensic science practices and precedents.
• Knowledge and good understanding of principles and methods of operating a modern forensic
science laboratory including work organization, fiscal management, budgeting, and program
planning and implementation.
• Ability to manage laboratory casework.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety precautions and procedures.
• Knowledge of laws of evidence, criminal procedures, and courtroom testimony.
• Knowledgeable of Accreditation standards associated with ISO: IEC 17025:2017.
• Knowledge of equipment/machinery/software: Spark Board operation, CBI Forensic Advantage,
Outlook, Excel, Google Docs, Word.
• Knowledge of Northern Colorado Regional Forensic Laboratory Board and Colorado Bureau of
Investigations protocols and accreditation standards for the various forensic disciplines.
• Interpersonal skills, including the ability to facilitate interaction, communication, and teamwork
between others.

Essential Functions:
• Manages and administrates the scientific and technical aspects of all the forensic lab disciplines
for the agencies of the Northern Colorado Regional Lab group within the guidelines previously
adopted through Intergovernmental Agreements and Memorandums of Understanding.
• Advises and counsels supervisors placed in the laboratory by the host agencies to supervise all
the lab disciplines.
• Coordinates with the Quality Assurance Manager of the CBI Laboratory System in the
application of the quality assurance standards.
• Maintains compliance with ISO: IEC 17025:2017 accreditation.
• Ensures quality control by investigating and reviewing proposed corrective actions related to
laboratory testing errors or incidents where laboratory policy and procedures are overlooked.
• Monitors workloads and assures laboratory tasks (casework) are completed in a timely and costeffective manner.
• Maintains effective communication with the Northern Colorado Regional Lab Board, District
Attorney's offices, and Law Enforcement agencies.
• Performs quality reviews of laboratory case reports prior to those reports being released to Law
Enforcement agencies as approved casework.
• Supervises the work of City of Greeley employees and employees from outside agencies while in
the lab.
• Handles performance appraisals and disciplinary issues.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• The essential functions of this position require the daily use of a computer and phone.
Physical Requirements:
• Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects.
• Minimal walking and/or standing as needed.
• Light to moderate physical effort that includes frequent standing or walking or maintaining arms
and hands in the same position for repetitive tasks.
• Frequently works with light objects and light hand tools.
• Ability to lift light to moderate weighing evidence packages from one location to another.
• Communication skills sufficient to convey information via phone and in person.
• Mobility enough to stand, sit, and move within a confined work area.
• Vision enough to: read computer keyboards, reference books, and other written documents,
analyze data/figures, and transcribe information.
• Manual dexterity enough to accurately input, retrieve, and verify work assignments.
