Manager, External and Corporate Communications

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

External Communications Strategy

  • Identify reputation building themes, topics and content that resonate with various audiences.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders across departments (Risk, Legal, Operations, etc.) to align communications strategies with business objectives.
  • Drive projects and programs that support DaVita’s reputation across stakeholders
  • Provide counsel on media and external communications activities to company executives.
  • Ensure all work is executed through a lens of strategic impact and measurement, leveraging the latest tools and technology to showcase how communications is driving business outcomes, brand awareness and engagement.

 

Media Relations and Outreach

  • Proactively cultivate and maintain relationships with key news media at spanning trade, local and national publications.
  • Handle sensitive media requests and interviews.
  • Respond to information requests from the media and the public, determining appropriate, accurate responses and company contacts.
  • Monitor daily news coverage related to the company and coordinate proactive responses as necessary.
  • Track and archive relevant coverage to measure the impact of media relations efforts.

 

Cross-Functional Impact

  • Operate in cross-functional teams advising on communications strategies and providing real-time counsel.
  • Educate on public information matters, including researching, providing information, and developing messages.
  • Tell a unified story to enhance DaVita’s reputation, ensuring all efforts reflect and bolster the enterprise.
  • Connect the dots to ensure all key teams are engaged and key audiences are taken into consideration.

 

Special Projects

  • Write, edit, review, and ensure appropriate distribution of materials with a company-wide impact, including news releases, articles, and online information services.
  • Oversee the production and publication of communication/public relations materials and related communication.

 

Manage and Mentor

  • Mentor and coach the team as appropriate.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8+ years in corporate communications or agency, with experience in a leadership role.
  • Skills:
    • Extensive experience in public relations and stakeholder communications, with an emphasis on media relations and expert writing skills.
    • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure, working with peers and senior management.
    • Understanding of communications strategy, content development, and channel delivery.
    • Ability to manage issues, projects, and campaigns with minimal supervision, with accountability for strategy, tactical execution, and outcomes.
    • Strong analytical, negotiating, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to delegate when appropriate; perform timely performance reviews and provide informal feedback to teammates to ensure professional development.
    • Ability to maintain confidence and professionalism when leading others through ambiguous and challenging situations

Essential Behaviors, Skills, and Attitudes

  • Communication: Excellent writing, communications, and presentation skills required.
  • Experience: Extensive experience with issues management, corporate communications, and media relations.
  • Leadership: Proven track record partnering with C-level executives and other senior leaders on communications projects and business decision-making (references appreciated).
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to conceptualize and execute advanced, integrated reactive and proactive communications campaigns.
  • Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of healthcare issues highly desirable.

Salary/ Wage Range

$62,200.00 – $91,300.00 / year

 

 

Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
