Eagle County is seeking a skilled Assistant County Attorney to join our collaborative legal team. This is an exciting opportunity to practice a wide range of public sector law while supporting the work of our elected officials, departments, boards, and commissions. Position Details:

Salary Range: $106,862 to $160,293.
Hiring Range: $106,862 – $133,578. An offer above the hiring range may be considered based on qualifications.

Hours and Location: This is a full-time position. The work schedule is Monday – Friday and work hours are determined by need but generally fall between 8:00am – 5:00 pm. Flexible work arrangements may be available upon a demonstrated ability to meet job expectations. 

The Attorney's Office is adjacent to the Eagle County Government Building, located at 500 Broadway, Eagle, CO 81631. This position will be required to attend in-person hearings, work sessions and meetings, including attendance at other Eagle County locations as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Litigation & Trial Prep: Investigate claims against the County, assist in preparing and trying cases, manage the litigation calendar, and assist with representation of the Board of Equalization in property tax appeals at all levels.
  • Contracts & Transactional Law: Draft, review, and revise contracts, resolutions, deeds, leases, easements, and covenants for various County departments to ensure legal acceptability.
  • Counsel & Advice: Assist in advising  department management, staff, and appointed boards on statutory requirements, local government authority, and evolving questions of law.
  • Research & Opinions: Conduct thorough legal research and draft clear, well-reasoned memoranda, briefs, pleadings, and formal legal opinions on pressing county issues.
  • Transparency & Public Records: Review and coordinate organizational responses to public records requests under the Colorado Open Records Act (CORA).

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Licensure: Must be licensed to practice law by the State of Colorado and in good standing.
  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years in the active practice of law with broad contract and civil litigation experience. (An exceptionally demonstrated ability to perform these tasks based on unique clerkship, education, or specialized experience may be considered if under 3 years).
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in legal tech platforms (Westlaw) alongside standard professional tools (Google Workspace/MS Office).

Preferred Background:

  • Prior experience in local government or municipal law.
  • A strong foundation in local government  law and experience providing direct counsel to public boards, authorities, or commissions.
