Clear Creek Makerspace Assistant Manager

Localworks, a 501c3 nonprofit organization that powers the Clear Creek Makerspace (CCM) is seeking a talented Makerspace Assistant Manager. This is a part-time position offering up to 25 hours of work per week with an hourly wage of $23.75-$25.00 per hour based upon experience. 

CCM was established in 2021 and opened its newly renovated makerspace located in Wheat Ridge, CO in March 2024. Localworks is seeking a high energy, creative, and detail-oriented team member to assist with daily operations, program management, and membership management for CCM. This team member will work closely with the CCM Director in pursuit of these efforts. 

This position is funded through a grant and is expected to last for one year. While we are committed to exploring opportunities for renewal or continuation, this will depend on future funding availability and organizational needs, and therefore cannot be guaranteed. Candidates should be aware that this is a temporary position with a term end of December 31st, 2025.

More about the position and Clear Creek Makerspace:

The candidate selected for this position will be employed by Localworks. Although the majority of this positions’ time (98%) will be spent assisting with makerspace equipment, programming in the space, equipment maintenance and membership management in partnership with the CCM Director, this person will be spending a small amount of their time assisting with Localworks programs and events as needed and assigned.

CCM is a cutting-edge 7,500 square foot makerspace created to foster collaborative design projects for Wheat Ridge and the greater Front Range community, and is open to everyone no matter their experience or ability. Opened in March 2024, CCM is now one of the largest and most accessible community makerspaces in the Mountain West. It’s designed to encourage and build upon project-based learning at all levels, providing regular training workshops and engaging events on equipment usage, prototyping, design, and business development. Ultimately, the makerspace features desktop FDM and SLA 3D printing, small and industrial CO2 laser cutting, electronics tools and testing equipment, textiles, crafting, vinyl cutting, leatherworking, 3D scanning, 3D modeling and CAD, introductory and advanced woodshop tools and equipment, and a full metalworking shop.

Job duties and responsibilities:

Clear Creek Makerspace Program Management & Assistance

  • Assist members with tools, equipment, and projects.

  • Host tours for prospective members and community groups

  • Host new member safety training

  • Assist with membership orientation and onboarding

  • Assist in creation and hosting of special events, workshops and classes for diverse demographic groups

  • Assist in capturing and managing mixed-media content for CCM

  • Assist with supervision and management of student staff

  • Foster partnerships with regional community and industry groups

  • Enforce policies and procedures regarding safety, training, use of equipment, and access to the space and ensure that CCM procedures are being followed.

Clear Creek Makerspace operations management & assistance 

  • Membership CRM management

    • Billing

    • Badge assignments

    • Data collection

    • Surveying

    • Communications

  • Building and equipment maintenance

    • Manage and maintain resources for the makerspace, including equipment, software, and materials.

    • Organize and maintain inventory of both consumable and non-consumable supplies. Ensure that adequate supplies are kept on hand to accommodate the needs of the patrons.

    • Tool maintenance (equipment lockout/tagout tagging, ordering, tool repair)

    • Daily space organization, spot cleaning

Localworks program and events assistance (10-15 hours per calendar year)

  • Assist with event staffing and preparation as assigned with large Localworks events, including but not limited to Ridgefest.

Experience:

  • Experience with makerspace equipment and tools (required)

  • Makerspace operations experience: At least 1 year of experience (preferred)

  • College degree (preferred)

  • Experience and knowledge of makerspaces: 2 years (preferred)

  • Experience in startup or fast paced work environment (preferred)

  • Experience with safety training (preferred)

  • Microsoft Office Suite: 2 years (preferred)

  • GSuite: 2 years (preferred)

  • Artist, graphic design, and/or mixed-media experience

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in public speaking

  • Formal presentation skills

  • Knowledge of best office practices, procedures, and use of general office equipment.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Lifting: Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

  • Standing/Walking: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, up to 8 hours per shift. 

  • Climbing: Must be able to climb ladders and stairs.

  • Bending/Kneeling: Frequent bending, kneeling, and reaching.

  • Health insurance – Company pays 50% of monthly premium.  To be reviewed on an annual basis.

  • Dental insurance – Company pays 100% of monthly premium.  To be reviewed on an annual basis.

  • Retirement plan – Company matches 2% of employee salary.  Employee is vested after two years of employment.

  • Paid vacation time – Company provides four weeks of vacation time to be used within the calendar year.  Use of vacation time must be approved by the supervisor and Executive Director.  This time is not paid out upon separation of employment.

  • Paid sick leave –  Localworks adheres to the Colorado State Healthy Families and Workplaces Act and offers the following sick leave benefit:  Employees start employment with 20 hours of sick leave and will accrue 3 hours of paid sick leave for every 40 hours worked, up to a total of 240 hours.  

  • 10 paid holidays – New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Job Type:  

  • Part-time position which requires occasional evening and weekend work related to program delivery and community events. 

  • Bonus structure available. 

  • Salary: $23.75-$25.00/ hr (based on experience)

Work Schedule:

  • Typically 25 hours, Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 – 5:00pm

  • Some evenings and weekends, with compensatory time off for these events and programs
