Purpose: Reporting to the Facilities Supervisor, the Facilities Generalist I supports the maintenance and improvement of facilities, buildings, and grounds at Douglas County Libraries (DCL). This role contributes to daily branch operations and ensures a premium experience for customers and staff through consistent, high-quality facility care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Commercial Building Maintenance & Upkeep (40%)
- Performs a wide range of facility maintenance tasks such as painting, minor plumbing and electrical repairs, light replacement, carpet tile installation, and furniture repair or assembly.
- Diagnoses and resolves maintenance issues efficiently, maintaining clean and improved workspaces.
- Operates manual and power tools skillfully and safely, applying lock-out/tag-out procedures and using appropriate PPE per safety standards.
- Supports repair and upkeep of automated materials handling equipment and responds to on-call, after-hours needs.
- Collaborates across locations to provide excellent internal customer service and contribute to smooth branch operations.
Manual Labor (40%)
- Performs physically demanding tasks indoors and outdoors, including landscape and sprinkler repair, snow removal, moving furniture, and hauling seasonal materials.
- Constructs and assembles shelving, fixtures, and furniture to support operational needs.
- Works in all weather conditions and supports large-scale facility improvement projects requiring strength and endurance.
Professional Standards & Safety (15%)
- Follows industry safety protocols with attention to hazard prevention and accident avoidance.
- Maintains positive, team-oriented relationships across departments and represents DCL professionally.
- Demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness in cross-trained duties, supporting a variety of teams as needed.
Other Duties (5%)
- Develops proficiency in relevant industry and organizational technology.
- Engages in DCL’s performance feedback process and meets departmental expectations, policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Experience and Qualifications:
Required
- Associate’s degree
- Valid Colorado Driver’s License, good driving record
- Basic skills in Microsoft 365 or other productivity, collaboration, and cloud-based services software. Ability to learn and apply new technologies.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree
- Commercial construction experience
A combination of experience and education will be considered.
Physical Requirements: Must have a reliable method of transportation between all DCL locations. Vision is 20/40 or better in either eye with or without corrective lenses, and total combined horizontal field of vision, with both eyes, of at least 120 degrees. Must have the physical ability, stamina, mobility and manual dexterity to support a 7-day a week operation.?Handle materials and chemicals safely.? Push/pull loads with a force of up to 50 pounds, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, work in confined space and at heights up to 30 feet.? Must have the ability to safely use manual tools and power tools common in construction trades.
