Job Description:
St. Mary’s Academy is seeking an engaging and dynamic long-term substitute teacher who is qualified to lead the Middle School and High School Choral Department from August 12, 2025 – January 5, 2026. Candidates should have experience in developing young through mature voices, programming repertoire for a variety of ensembles and fostering a culture of inclusivity. Our music educators focus on the Colorado Music Standards of expression, creativity, comprehension, and evaluation as they encourage purposeful participation. Successful candidates will exhibit excellent musicianship, a passion for teaching and strong organizational skills while managing a fast-paced and flexible environment.
Successful candidates will model the Loretto Values of Faith, Community, Justice, and Respect in their classroom, and encourage our students to use music as a tool for communicating and expressing these values. St. Mary's Academy expects excellence from all students but fosters growth through adversity, particularly through the exploration of foundational music skills, basic instrumental techniques, and vocal development. St. Mary's advocates for the work of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the classroom, particularly in the music classroom to expose and perform music of various genres, styles, and cultures.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach four to five choral ensembles across the lower, middle and high school;
- Create a positive classroom culture by incorporating a student-centered and inclusive pedagogy utilizing effective classroom management;
- Be willing to collaborate with colleagues to develop cross-curricular learning experiences, and with performing arts staff in developing co-curricular or extra-curricular performances;
- Prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that will facilitate active learning within all levels of experience and age groups;
- Teach music theory and history as developmentally appropriate for each age group;
- Prepare students for monthly masses, prayer services and semester concerts
- Maintain care for school-owned facilities, music, musical instruments, and equipment.
- Perform other supervisory duties as required such as recess, lunch, or morning/afternoon pick-up and/or drop-off; and,
- Communicate effectively with St. Mary’s Academy staff, students, and parents.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Vocal Performance, Music Education or comparable experience in music and education
Knowledge or skills in some or all of the following:
- Some proficiency in piano accompaniment
- Vocal pedagogy
- Conducting
- Alexander Technique
- Music technology, A/V systems, current music software, Google Office software
Salary/Benefits:
The salary range for this long-term substitute, exempt position is $20,000 – $25,000.
