SUMMARY:

The Executive Director of the Gazette Charities Foundation (GCF) is an employee of The Anschutz Foundation (TAF) with primary responsibility for the Gazette Charities Foundation in the Pikes Peak area. This position plans, organizes, and executes the Empty Stocking Fund (ESF), a comprehensive fundraising campaign to support 20 health and human service partner agencies. The position engages with the community and fosters meaningful relationships with donors, foundations, volunteers, and partner agencies. The position also provides grantmaking support for TAF for nonprofit agencies in the Pikes Peak area. The Executive Director has dual reporting to the Executive Director of TAF and the Chair of the board of Gazette Charities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • ESF Campaign Planning and Execution:
    • Develop and implement a strategic fundraising plan to support 20 partner agencies.
    • Supervise assigned Gazette marketing staff (including a graduate fellow from UCCS) to execute this plan.
    • Organize and oversee fundraising events to engage community members and elevate awareness for the ESF campaign.
    • Develop relationships with key stakeholders and bring on new partners.
    • Set and achieve fundraising goals within specified timelines

 

  • Community Engagement:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with local businesses, community groups, and individuals to encourage support and participation. Bring on new community partners, corporate donors and foundation support.
    • Create and manage volunteer opportunities for community involvement in fundraising initiatives.
    • Exercise due diligence, including site visits, for the ESF Community Grants program.
    •  Prepare materials for presentation to the board for approval of community grants.

 

  • Communication and Promotion:
    • Develop compelling messaging and promotional materials with the marketing team to enhance campaign visibility.
    • Utilize social media, newsletters, and other communication channels to reach a broad audience.

 

  • Donor Relations:
    • Manage donor databases and ensure timely acknowledgment of contributions.
    • Maintain ongoing communication with donors, providing updates on campaign progress and the impact of their contributions.
    • Steward and develop long-term donor and stakeholders.

 

  • Collaboration with Partner Agencies:
    • Liaise with representatives from the 20 partner agencies to understand their needs and effectively communicate the impact of the campaign.
    • Ongoing (annual) site visits and due diligence of health and relevance of funder nonprofits partners and grantees.
    • Annual presentations to the governing boards of the 20 partner agencies.

 

  • Best & Brightest Scholarship Program:
    • Communicate and coordinate with all local school district offices and high schools to roll out applications at the beginning of the year.
    • Gather and organize all applications and ancillary documents for adjudication.
    • Acquisition of judges and facilitation of adjudication process.
    • Once scholars are selected, coordinate with The Gazette on stories of awardees.
    • Plan awards banquet.
    • Collaborate and maintain relationships with additional foundations who support the scholarship program.

 

  • Board:
    • Prepare quarterly GCF board materials and coordinate with board chair.
    • Provide oversight of ESF advisory board and facilitate quarterly meetings.

 

  • TAF Grantmaking Support
    • Track and review grant applications submitted for consideration from the Pikes Peak region; make site visits, as appropriate; prepare written summaries and analysis documents of grant applications to aid grantmaking committee in evaluating and making awards. Note: currently, most ESF partners are also TAF grantees.
    • Communicate with grant applicants and grantees and serve as TAFs principal contact with Pikes Peak grantees.
    • Respond to and manage new inquiries from nonprofit organizations regarding Foundation priorities and processes.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Development, Communications, Marketing, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven experience (3 years minimum) in fundraising, nonprofit management, or a related role.
  • Demonstrated experience in reviewing and analyzing nonprofit financial reports.
  • Proficient with Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using fundraising software, grantmaking software, and social media platforms.
  • Passion for community service and a commitment to the mission of supporting health and human services.
  • Able to work in a team environment but also independently with limited supervision.
  • Able to adapt and respond to changing priorities while meeting established deadlines.
  • Must possess a high level of organization, accuracy, and follow-through, particularly with high volumes of information.
  • Experience managing complex projects involving multiple stakeholders, completing tasks in a timely manner with outstanding attention to detail.

Physical Activity:

  • Able to operate a motor vehicle. Must have valid driver’s license.
  • May be required to travel by automobile to grantee locations and meetings, and bi-weekly team meetings in Denver, Colorado.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Primarily an office environment, and occasionally in the external environment. 
  • Business needs may require travel.
  • Occasional evening grantee and community event attendance.

COMPENSATION

  • This is a full-time, exempt, office-based position located in downtown Colorado Springs, Colorado. Starting annual salary range is $130,000 to $145,000, commensurate with background and experience. A generous benefits package is offered, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, retirement program, sick and vacation leave, and paid holidays.
