The Major Gifts Officer role carries two key responsibilities that are essential to our organization's success. This role will oversee and enhance a diverse portfolio of approximately 150-200 donors to actively solicit both annual contributions and significant major gifts. This position will also involve the creation and execution of a comprehensive annual cultivation plan aimed at rekindling connections with lapsed donors, ensuring they feel valued and informed about our mission and progress. This position necessitates a minimum of 5 to 7 years of demonstrated experience in fundraising. Candidates should have a proven track record of successfully developing and executing fundraising campaigns, as well as strong relationships with donors and philanthropic organizations. 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities that strengthen long-term relationships with assigned donors and prospects.
  • Create and implement an annual cultivation plan for recaptured donors.
  • Conduct regular facility tours with portfolio donors and prospects.
  • Develop annual giving and sustainable funding goals and strategies to achieve successful outcomes in line with the annual budget and agency strategic plan.
  • Contribute to the development of strategic fundraising goals and objectives through participation in development team planning meetings
  • Provide regular status updates to the Chief Development Officer (CDO) regarding pending and successful solicitation efforts, and actual to budget revenue goals for the assigned portfolio of donors and prospects.
  • Collaborate with CDO to determine prospects for cultivation
  • Make direct, face-to-face cultivation and solicitation visits with assigned donors and prospects  
  • Maintain accurate and timely donor activity in the donor database.  
  • Leverage the donor software system to track engagement and outcomes on a weekly basis and implement tailored moves management strategies for assigned donors and prospects. 
  • Participate in relevant meetings and represent the agency in the community as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) a plus
  • Minimum of five years of nonprofit fundraising experience with a demonstrated ability to secure gifts and meet objectives required
  • Must be a skilled fundraiser, an exceptional communicator, and a person who works collaboratively with and through others to achieve success
  • Capital campaign experience is a plus
  • Must work independently and be self-motivated in initiating contacts with prospects
  • Skilled in using a donor database, prospect research, and other wealth screening tools to aid the moves management process 
  • Exceptional writing and speaking skills, and the ability to use them to compel individuals to action
  • Must be organized, prepared, detail-oriented, and follow through on commitments
  • Ability to inspire prospects and successfully engage them in our vision and mission
  • Must adhere to the highest ethical standards, demonstrate empathetic disposition and perseverance, and convey sensitivity to the needs of donors
  • Exceptional relationship and trust-building, communication, listening, and personal engagement skills
  • High degree of comfort and poise with a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with thoroughness, accuracy, timeliness, professionalism, and a positive spirit
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office, spreadsheets, databases, email, and the internet  
  • Familiarity with DonorPerfect or a similar donor software program preferred

PERSONAL CONTACTS AND PURPOSE

Develops, cultivates, and maintains donor/prospect relationships, both internal and external to the agency, with the intent of soliciting both annual and major gifts. This position also represents the agency in the community and at various fundraising events as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work involves normal physical activity associated with an office environment and a development department, which may include event set-up/tear down of tables and displays, and light lifting of equipment and materials. Will conduct presentations and may participate in community committees with occasional night or weekend work and/or long days.
