The intern position requires an individual who is adaptable, highly organized, self motivated, and can work independently with strong writing and personal skills, as well as have an introductory to advanced historic preservation skill set.
CPI’s Preservation Services Department serves a critical role within the organization working with the public to advance significant historic preservation projects statewide. In addition to grant writing and project management, the department monitors historic preservation easements and provides preservation technical assistance.
CPI’s Preservation Services Department Intern will gain experience in all aspects of the department working directly with the Preservation Services Director building skills in:
• Persuasive grant writing
• Assembling, managing, and phasing complex preservation projects
• Record-keeping and financial reporting – internally and to funders
• Understanding and monitoring adherence to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Rehabilitation of Historic Properties
• Administering Historic Preservation Easements
Internship responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Assistance with historic research on preservation properties
2. Assistance with grant writing
3. Tracking grant deliverables, project progress, and financial transactions
4. Assistance with document filing and program organization
5. Assistance with documenting historic preservation easements
Qualifications: Seeking an introductory to advanced student or recent graduate with a degree or pursing a degree in historic preservation and/or its related fields/programs. Must have very strong written and verbal communication skills, be a self-starter, able to work independently. Candidates must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and able to take, edit, and organize digital photographs. Experience with Canva and Adobe Acrobat Pro a plus. The position is paid, and academic credit may be available.
