Agency Overview
GroundFloor Media (GFM) is an integrated marketing communications agency, founded in 2001 and built for people who want to do meaningful work alongside smart, driven teammates. Headquartered in downtown Denver, our team of more than 50 communications professionals works across the U.S. and around the world through our partnership with PROI, the industry’s largest global network of independent agencies.
For more than 25 years, we have helped major brands, large-scale organizations and mission-driven nonprofits solve complex challenges, tell compelling stories and drive measurable impact. Our work spans industries and disciplines from thought leadership and digital strategy to crisis communications, advocacy, creative campaigns and fully integrated marketing, giving team members the opportunity to do career-defining work that truly makes a difference.
Just as important as the work we do is how we do it. GFM has built a culture rooted in trust, autonomy and entrepreneurial thinking. We believe great work happens when talented people are empowered to work in ways that support both high performance and full lives. That means flexibility in when and where they work, Trusted Time Off that allows people to recharge, Zero-Entry Mondays to ease into the week with intention, quarterly mental health days, dedicated coaching and professional development support, and team-building tools like Emergenetics and Enneagram that help us better understand how we work best together.
That culture has earned national recognition. GFM has been named one of Outside magazine’s Best Places to Work in the country for 12 consecutive years and remains the longest-tenured company nationwide to rank in the top 10.
Giving back is also core to who we are. Through our Get Grounded volunteer program and our private 501(c)(3) Get Grounded Foundation, we have provided more than $629,000 in microgrants supporting youth mental health, child abuse and neglect prevention, and childhood food insecurity. We are proud to have been recognized four times by The Civic 50 for setting the standard for corporate citizenship in Colorado.
GFM is a place for people who are curious, collaborative and motivated to make an impact for clients, for each other and for the communities we serve. In addition to our culture-driven benefits, we offer a competitive traditional benefits package, annual bonus opportunities and a referral program.
Our Ideal Team Member
We believe that great work starts by taking care of our people. We don't believe in micromanaging and prefer to hire capable, kind and humble individuals who demonstrate our four core values of uncompromising ethics, passionate collaboration, mutual respect and unwavering accountability.
The ideal team member exemplifies what we call "talent-tude" – mad skills complemented by a great outlook on both work and life. We hire carefully because we want our team members to be with us for a long time while they continue to learn and grow. Historically, our annual attrition rate hovers around 6% as compared to an average of 30% in our industry, which is a testament to the longevity of our team.
We are currently seeking a consultant with a minimum of five years of professional SEO experience, including hands-on technical SEO, to join our search team to help clients show up everywhere people look for answers, from Google to ChatGPT, Claude and more. You'll pair a strong SEO foundation with emerging social search and GEO strategy and turn the results into clear stories clients can act on. While we are currently seeking a consultant, the role has the potential to grow into a full or part-time in the future. Local candidates preferred, but we are open to remote consultants, too.
Skills and Qualifications
The most successful candidate will be primarily responsible for helping clients appear, be accurately represented and be cited in search engines and AI platforms. You’ll have a deep understanding of SEO and GEO strategy and will develop and carry out plans tailored to each client and their digital properties.
Throughout, you test what works, document the results, share them with the team and are honest about what doesn't work.
The right candidate will be able to understand and clearly convey the business case for successful search programs at a level appropriate for the audience.
Candidates with the following attributes will likely succeed in this position:
-
Deep knowledge of traditional SEO, including keyword and audience research, on-page optimization, content strategy and optimization, internal linking, link building and SEO
-
Strong technical SEO skills, including site audits, crawlability and indexation, site architecture, page speed and Core Web Vitals, redirects, structured data and JavaScript rendering. This includes the ability to diagnose issues, prioritize fixes and guide implementation, including during site migrations and redesigns.
-
Working knowledge of GEO and AEO, how AI search and answer engines find, interpret and cite content, and hands-on experience testing or applying those practices
-
A broad view of search that goes beyond Google to include social, video, local and AI platforms
-
The ability to work at both the strategic and tactical level: building search strategies tied to client goals and then executing the work.
-
Proven ability to manage multiple clients, projects and priorities at once (agency experience is a plus)
-
Proficiency with tools such as Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Semrush or Ahrefs, and a crawler such as Screaming Frog
-
Proficiency in Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics and Google Search Console to analyze search behavior and set up tracking tags and events.
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts and a fast-changing landscape to nontechnical clients
-
Experience building reports and presenting results to clients or senior leadership
-
Professional maturity and sound judgment, with the ability to earn credibility with high-touch clients and "read the room"
-
Social media acumen and sound judgment in both personal and professional digital lives
-
Forward-thinking and curious, someone who experiments with new AI tools and platforms and is energized, not rattled, when the rules change
-
Healthily skeptical, able to separate proven tactics from hype and to be straight with clients about the difference
-
Self-motivated, with a passion for delivering excellence
-
Comfortable with the big picture and the details, and happy to roll up their sleeves to implement a variety of tactics
-
Organized and dependable, able to keep many moving parts on track
-
A strong storyteller who connects search work to a client's goals, KPIs and audiences
-
A collaborative teammate who works well across disciplines
