Description

The Colorado Healing Fund (CHF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping survivors, victims, and families of the deceased after a mass casualty crime in our state. The mission of CHF is to provide financial assistance that meets otherwise unmet immediate and long-term needs. CHF was set up as a safe, trusted way for the public to give monetary donations to assist victims. The organization works with community partners, other non-profit organizations, government agencies, victim advocates, and law enforcement to coordinate the disbursement of resources and assistance.

We seek a bridge builder to focus on relationships between the board, partner organizations, lawmakers, and victim advocates and establish trust with each. A successful executive director will understand and honor diverse communities impacted in different ways by a common mass tragedy. Your ability to identify potential problems early, anticipate how stakeholders may react, and provide solutions will improve CHF’s overall effectiveness.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Strategic Leadership: Leads the development and implementation of strategic plans for CHF.

  • Drives the long-range and strategic planning process with the Board of Trustees, ensuring benchmarks are established for measuring success and that planning cycles recur as appropriate.
  • Develops and implements strategies in support of CHF’s goals, vision, values, and mission.
  • Develops and maintains brand awareness for CHF with its various local, state, and national constituencies.
  • Serves as a visionary internally and in the community for addressing the needs of victims of mass tragedies resulting from criminal acts.

Operational Leadership: Oversees all operational aspects of CHF, ensuring effective use of resources and legal compliance.

  • Develops and oversees the budget, which includes accurate, realistic forecasting of revenues and expenses for implementing action plans based on the goals established in collaboration with the Board of Trustees.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the annual budget is funded through appropriate channels
  • Oversees financial management of the organization, including all required financial reporting and coordinating the annual audit.
  • Maintains annual memberships, licenses, and certifications.
  • Works with consultants and vendors to coordinate the effective and efficient operation of the organization.

Outreach and Communication: Presents CHF’s mission and program in a robust and positive image to relevant stakeholders.

  • Oversees all public relations, community relations, communication strategies, website updates, programs, and staff.
  • Listens, communicates effectively, motivates, and builds trust with constituents and community members.
  • Represents CHF at local, state, and national events and initiatives through attendance, public speaking, serving on committees, and training presentations.
  • Provides leadership and strategic direction to increase community awareness of the needs of victims of mass tragedy.
  • Creates working relationships with local media and promotes CHF as an expert resource on mass tragedy-related issues/stories.
  • Proposes changes to response procedures based on regulatory changes, technological changes, or knowledge gained from outcomes of previous mass casualty incidents.

Incident Response Preparedness: Manages CHF’s response to Colorado’s mass casualty criminal violence incidents.

  • Maintains and updates the “Critical Response Plan” and ensures roles and responsibilities are adequately covered.
  • Provides timely and ongoing communication to the Board of Trustees, Advisory Committee, organization partners, media, and the community when a mass casualty event occurs.
  • Manages donations, bank accounts, and disbursements during all stages of activation and into the long term.
  • Engages with local and national media during the activation, providing press releases, interviews, statements, and identifying spokespeople.
  • Prepares timely reports on an activation including the disbursement of funds, to the extent allowed by confidentiality laws and policies.
  • Develops ongoing response training for the Board of Trustees and Advisory Committee. Prepares and presents training to the community related to preparedness, response, and recovery in the event of a mass casualty crime.

Fundraising/Development: Oversees the financial development of the organization.

  • Establishes fundraising objectives and budget with the board, setting one-year, five-year, and longer-term goals.
  • Oversees the fundraising process, solicits donations for operating costs, formally acknowledges gifts, and maintains records of receipts and disbursements of funds.
  • Maintains a list of potential financial donors, including corporations, foundations, and individuals, and applies for grants and public funding.
  • Produces relevant and informative fundraising literature for distribution to previous and potential donors and the public.
  • Plans fundraising events that effectively communicate the purposes of the organization.

Board of Trustees/Committees Relationship: Develops capabilities and contributions of Board members and CHF’s committees – Advisory, Governance, Funding & Awareness, and Executive.

  • Provides information and recommendations to the Board of Trustees for setting or revising CHF’s goals and objectives, operating policies, bylaws, and strategic planning.
  • Facilitates ongoing engagement and training of all committee members and seeks input for continuous process improvement.
  • Helps maintain Board of Trustees diversity and recruits directors and committee members with essential skill sets.
  • Ensures the Board fully engages in CHF’s mission fulfillment and manages membership terms.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum three years in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience with creating public/private partnerships.
  • Successful fundraising record.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Solid understanding and familiarity with the victim services community in the Denver metro area and throughout Colorado.
  • Ability to handle trauma, both personal and vicarious.

Benefits

Salary: $98,000 to $135,000 depending upon experience, with optional stipend for health benefits
