Job Summary
Perform program planning, development, implementation and evaluation for the department. Lead volunteer program for Pitkin County Senior Services.
Job Responsibilities
-
Designs and implements new program activities designed to serve Pitkin County older adults; responsible for follow up to ensure positive outcomes; works with community organizations regarding involvement and sponsorship of program activities.

Researches new activity programs from other providers in the industry and selects appropriate programs for trail periods within Pitkin County; reviews program attendance and outcomes.

Manages and oversees the recruitment and training of volunteer programs.

Collaborates with team members on scheduling and managing home delivered meals and volunteer drivers.

Leads outreach, external and internal communication efforts; newsletters, press releases, flyers, social media platforms, and web pages.

Supports the relationship between Pitkin County government and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and County staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and County information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills
This position follows a sequence:

Level I:
-
Up to 1 year experience in planning and implementing programming for older adults, preferably in a recreation or social services setting.

High School Diploma or GED equivalent, Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Gerontology, Recreational Therapy, Social Work or Human Services, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.

Level II (in addition to Level I):
-
1-3 years of progressively responsible experience.

Annual on-going education with completion of 1-2 trainings/courses within the field of Recreation Therapy, Gerontology or related field.

Level III (in addition to Level II):
-
3+ years of progressively responsible experience.

Annual ongoing education with completion of 3-4 training/courses or a training certificate in Gerontology or Recreational Therapy or related field.

Knowledge Of:
-
County policies and procedures.

State and federal laws and regulations governing work performed.

Record keeping and records management rules and standards.

Local community issues and regional community resources available to citizens.
Skill In:

Handling multiple tasks simultaneously, under pressure, and stressful situations.

Interacting with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.

Following and effectively communicating verbal and written instructions.

Utilizing standard personal computer software programs and specialized state and County software.

Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
