The Chief of Staff (COS) is a senior leader within Colorado Concern, responsible for driving operational excellence across the organization. Reporting directly to the President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the COS oversees and optimizes day-to-day operations, ensuring efficiency in office management, human resources, financial processes, and administrative support. This role requires a strategic leader with strong organizational, financial, and communication skills to enhance internal operations and support the organization's mission.

Duties and Responsibilities

Office Management & Administration

  • Serve as the organization’s Human Resources Officer, managing employee benefits administration and ensuring compliance with relevant policies and legal regulations in collaboration with legal counsel.
  • Implement and refine operational best practices, ensuring policies, procedures, and manuals remain up to date and aligned with industry standards and organizational needs.
  • Oversee general office operations, including vendor relationships, workflow management, and internal processes to maintain organizational efficiency.
  • Plan and coordinate member events, ensuring seamless execution from logistics to engagement. (e.g., networking events, policy forums, fundraising).
  • Provide executive-level support for Board of Directors meetings and related committees, including preparing materials, coordinating logistics, and ensuring smooth facilitation.
  • Manage the scheduling of meetings, maintaining an efficient daily calendar for the team, and ensuring all necessary information and materials are prepared in advance.
  • Oversee office supply management, including procurement of essential materials, maintenance of office equipment such as printers, and coordination with vendors to ensure seamless daily operations.

Financial Processes & Oversight

  • Supervise all financial processes within the organization, working closely with an external accounting firm to manage federal and state filings, invoicing, payment procedures, vendor contracts, and annual budgeting.
  • Provide financial strategy and guidance to the President & CEO, focusing on budgeting, cost control, cash flow management, and resource optimization.
  • Conduct monthly financial reviews, analyzing statements and delivering insights to the President & CEO for informed decision-making.

Membership Engagement & Relations

  • Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with Colorado Concern members and business leaders to ensure high levels of engagement and representation.
  • Oversee the maintenance, accuracy, and strategic utilization of a multi-platform membership database to enhance member engagement and support growth initiatives.
  • Develop and implement strategic initiatives to attract new members while strengthening engagement and retention efforts to ensure long-term membership growth and satisfaction.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Leadership & Organizational Management

  • Highly organized leader with a track record of successfully managing and optimizing internal operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and support a multidisciplinary team effectively.
  • Strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving skills and high-functioning time management abilities.

Financial & Business Acumen

  • Strong understanding of financial management, including budgeting, cash flow oversight, and financial reporting. Nonprofit financial management experience preferred.
  • Experience in working with external financial partners to ensure compliance and fiscal responsibility.

Decision-Making & Problem-Solving

  • Ability to anticipate organizational needs and implement proactive solutions, assess challenges, and make decisions that positively impact operations and member engagement.

Communication & Relationship Building

  • Exceptional executive-level communication and influencing abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships, negotiate, mediate conflicts, and foster stakeholder consensus.

FLSA Status: Full Time Exempt

This is a full-time, in-person position based in the office five days a week, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Given the nature of the role, occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support key events, meetings, or organizational priorities.

Compensation: Salary range $125,000 – $150,000
