Job Summary:
The Denver Preschool Program (DPP) is seeking a part-time Communications &
Outreach Specialist to support our efforts to raise awareness about the benefits of
preschool and increase family engagement across Denver. This entry-level role is ideal
for an organized, creative, and mission-driven early-career communications
professional. The Specialist will assist with digital communications, event support, and
community outreach, working under the supervision of the Vice President of
Communications.

Key Responsibilities:
Digital Communications & Content Creation
• Create and edit content for newsletters, blog posts, flyers, and other outreach
materials
• Oversee the development and distribution of monthly DPP provider and Colorado
Universal Preschool provider email newsletters and bi-weekly board of directors
updates.
• Assist with updates to the DPP website using WordPress content management
system (training provided)
• Maintain content archives, photo libraries, and digital assets
• Draft and schedule social media posts. Respond to social media direct messages

Media & Metrics Support
• Use tools such as Google News Alerts to monitor media coverage and public
sentiment. Compile weekly coverage summaries (clip sheets).
• Assist in tracking, aggregating, and reporting basic digital metrics from social
media, DPP’s website, advertising, and other digital platforms.

Community Engagement & Events
• Support VP of Communications in the planning of DPP’s 20th anniversary
celebration events and activities
• Work with staff and external contractors to support logistics and promotion for
family outreach events such as resource fairs and partner activities.
• Help coordinate materials, RSVPs, and event-day needs
• Assist with the procurement and inventory of DPP’s outreach supplies

General Support
• Support VP of Communications in the implementation of DPP’s brand and
institutional identity initiative
• Assist with light design projects in Canva or similar tools
• Maintain up-to-date contact lists for DPP’s target audiences
• Provide administrative and logistical support to the Communications & Outreach
team as needed
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing,
journalism, or a related field.

Experience: Relevant internship or 1-2 years of work experience preferred, especially in
a nonprofit, education, or public sector communications role.

Skills & Competencies
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including a firm grasp of
Associated Press Style guidelines and general branding conventions
• Possess strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel,
PowerPoint) and Google Suite.
• Ability to use mass e-mail design and distribution programs, such as Emma or
Mailchimp, or willingness to learn
• Basic understanding of social media management
• Proficiency in Canva or similar desktop publishing tools, and a willingness to
learn
• Detail-oriented, organized, and responsive
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus, but not required
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet
deadlines.
Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and collaborate with
colleagues, partners, and stakeholders.
• A genuine interest in and commitment to DPP's mission and the field of early
childhood education.

Work Environment & Requirements
• Hybrid position; must reside in or near the Denver area
• Occasional evening or weekend work to support events
• Must be able to lift or move up to 15 pounds
