POSITION SUMMARY

The Director, Investigations is part of the Response & Resolution (R&R) leadership team and responsible for leading and directing an investigative team within the R&R Office of the U.S. Center for SafeSport. Directors supervise Assistant Directors of Investigations and ensure the formal investigation and resolution process is properly effectuated, including consistent compliance with policies and procedures across the Division; that investigations are thorough, reliable, and impartial; and that the Division's staff employ industry best practices. 

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE 

  • Assist the Deputy VP of Investigations and GC/VP of Response & Resolution in developing and implementing policies and procedures related to R&R, specifically the Investigations division. 
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise a team of Assistant Directors of Investigations and investigators. 
  • Work with the Senior Director of Intake & Resolutions and Deputy General Counsel to ensure proper implementation of temporary measures throughout the Investigations process, consistent with the Center’s policies and protocols. 
  • Review investigation reports and other Investigations documentation, as needed. 
  • Review formal notices and decisions as part of the resolution process, as needed. 
  • Assist in the management of the Division budget and financial records, as needed.  
  • Serve as a point of contact for inquiries from the USOPC, NGBs, and other interested parties concerning Response & Resolution policies and procedures, particularly those related to the Investigations department, as needed. 
  • Work closely with the Deputy VP of Investigations and GC/VP of Response & Resolution to develop and implement standard operating procedures, case management tools and protocols, quality control initiatives, and other items, as needed. 
  • Serve as a voting member of the R&R Case Review Committee, as needed. 
  • Ensure appropriate assignment of cases to investigators. 
  • Serve as a core member of the R&R Policy and Training committees. 
  • Assist in annual review of SafeSport Code, as needed. 
  • Conduct and/or coordinate internal trainings for division and R&R staff regarding best practices, effective strategies, and standard protocols related to the R&R process. 
  • Conduct trainings related to the Center’s mission and work for USOPC, NGBs, and external organizations. 

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS 

  • 7+ years experience supervising staff and/or managing a department. 
  • 5+ years’ experience conducting, managing, and/or overseeing the investigation and resolution of misconduct matters, particularly those involving allegations of sexual misconduct and/or child abuse.    
  • Experience drafting and reviewing policies and procedures, as well as experience conducting training for investigators, administrators, and/or adjudicative bodies preferred. 
  • Ability to supervise and direct staff, including but not limited to, responsiveness to staff issues, personnel needs, and provide fair evaluations. 
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate evidence to include party and witness interviews, documents, and digital media. 
  • Can communicate effectively orally and in writing with a diverse population. 
  • Ability to self-motivate and work independently in a remote environment. 
  • Critical thinking skills, ability to process information separate from personal feelings or judgments. 
  • Demonstrated skill in reviewing and writing concise, logical, analytical reports to synthesize complex issues.  
  • Ability to work professionally with difficult people and high conflict situations. 
  • Thoughtful and deliberate decision making. 
  • Collaborative and flexible work style. 
  • Thoroughness, accuracy, and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to train and develop staff, particularly in the field of investigations.  
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines with interruptions in a busy office environment. 
  • Working knoweldge and competency in Microsoft Office and other computer skills to include working with a case management system, particularly managing allegations of misconduct. 
  • Public speaking skills 
  • Understanding of the dynamics of trauma and cycles of violence, and reasons for reluctance to participate. 
  • Experience coordinating and leading team meetings in virtual and in-person settings.  
  • Master’s or advanced degree  

WORK REQUIREMENTS & ENVIRONMENT

  • Some night and weekend work hours
  • Some overnight travel required

WORK LOCATION – Denver, CO; or remote

This is a full-time, exempt position. The starting salary range for this position is $126k – $141k and will be commensurate with background and experience.
