The hiring salary range for this position is $5,716.66 – $7,146.72month or $2,858.33 – $3,573.36/semi-monthly depending on qualifications.

About the Position of Graphic design supervisor
This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the Division.

  • Directs staff by prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance planning and evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination and disciplinary recommendations.
  • Oversees design team processes and ensures full use of project-management technology to ensure efficiency and accuracy. Researches, evaluates and recommends digital asset management strategies and technologies. Collaborates with Information Technology on cloud storage, design software and potential digital asset management solutions. Champions alternatives, suggests changes and documents standard operating procedures.
  • Oversees design team conformance with state and federal digital accessibility standards; ensuring all design processes and products are as accessible as possible. Ensures graphic design team receives sufficient, relevant and ongoing training in digital accessibility conformance. Documents exceptions in collaboration with the organization’s accessibility officer.
  • Reviews Graphic Designers’ work products to ensure full alignment with brand and accessibility standards; advances proofs to project managers when ready.
  • Develops, maintains and updates standards for all aspects of video production, including audio, B-roll, still images, typography, music, motion graphics, captions and accessibility; prepares video templates; ensures Graphic Designers adhere to team standards. May oversee contracted video production.
  • Ensures Graphic Designers use the creative team’s cloud-based project management software consistent with team practices; files are delivered consistent with requestor expectations and named consistent with team standards.
  • Develops, deploys, maintains and refines design templates to ensure all deliverables incorporate accessible foundational design elements (such as header structure and color contrast), and are consistent with DRCOG’s brand family. May oversee contracted design work.
  • Designs and edits design elements for print, web, digital, video and social platforms; creates images, layout, color and design. Takes photos. Produces feature videos.
  • Coordinates graphic design coordination meetings, informal regular check-ins with Graphic Designers and leads graphic design team creative and ideation sessions.
  • Ensures on-site team coverage consistent with organization policies and team needs (currently Monday through Thursday).
  • Works closely with the communications manager to ensure Graphic Designers’ alignment with design team, creative team, division and organization practices, policies and expectations.
  • Meets with clients to review project needs; gathers information and determines best approach for project design and production; collaborates with clients on ideas and concepts; prepares and implements recommended solutions.
  • Provides graphic support and develops collateral and communication materials which may include promotional items, reports, brochures, newsletters, charts, posters, eblasts, handouts and presentations; ensures materials accurately reflect desired messaging and quality standards.
  • Oversees design, implementation, revision and expansion of the organization’s visual identity. Maintain and ensures at least annual updates to the organization’s brand. Ensures work products created by the Graphic Designers appropriately conform with brand, logo, wordmark, typographic and color standards. Provides brand and accessible design guidance to other visual communications professionals, such as web and geographic information systems staff.
  • Maintains, refines and expands team capacity, expertise and processes for photography, including staff and Board portraits, on-location events, product photography and meeting and event photography. Ensures equipment and software for photography are sufficient for professional results. May oversee contracted photography.
  • Prepares and updates standard procedures, guides and resources; reviews and edits publications and reports; maintains documentation related to projects and assignment area.
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders on the coordination and implementation of graphic projects and print production; obtains vendor bids and recommends vendor selection; prepares, maintains and updates project status reports.
  • Takes, post-processes and acquires photographs, illustrations and other graphics for print and digital use. Researches, selects and maintains stock image, stock video and stock audio resources.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Education and experience requirements:
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in art, graphic design, visual communications or journalism and three to five years of graphic design with print production and layout experience; plus one to three years’ supervisory experience. OR   An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
