Are you a creative communicator who enjoys crafting clear, engaging messages that connect people and build community? The City of Arvada is seeking a Communications Coordinator to support the development, coordination, and delivery of both internal and external communications.

In this role, you’ll help manage city newsletters, website content, social media messaging, and special projects that keep our residents informed and involved. If you’re detail-oriented, collaborative, and passionate about public service and storytelling, we’d love to have you on our Communication and Engagement team.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assists with content coordination and copyediting for the Arvada Report. The Arvada Report is distributed bi-monthly to all residents and businesses in Arvada.

  • Coordinates content and is the editor of the City’s electronic newsletter to subscribers twice monthly.

  • Creates and maintains content for various city websites ensuring important information gets shared with the public in a timely manner.

  • Provides project support for the Communication and Engagement team such as coordinating venues, materials and staffing for events.

  • Manages and integrates department messaging, as assigned, across all City communication platforms (web, social media, and print).

  • Coordinates content and edits internal communication newsletters.

  • Monitors activities related to community partners, and shares that information with the community, as appropriate.

  • Travels to and attends team and organizational meetings, training, events and activities and appropriately and professionally represents the department.

  • Recommends strategic goals for their area of responsibility to support organizational goals.

  • Assists with special projects as requested.

  • Performs other duties assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent writing and editing skills.

  • Ability to handle multiple demands, adapt to interruptions and prioritize to meet deadlines.

  • Familiarity with content creation for a variety of platforms.

  • Familiarity with accessible communication techniques.

  • Ability to effectively communicate information, both verbally and in writing, to support organizational objectives and interact with all levels of personnel within the city in a positive and cooperative manner.

Knowledge Skills Abilities Preferred

  • Knowledge of City policies and procedures.

  • Familiarity with local government structures.

  • Knowledge of WCAG guidelines for digital accessibility.

License & Certification

Education Degree

  • Bachelors Degree (BA, BS, BBA)

Education Major

Education Required

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Work Experience Related

  • Three (3) years’ experience in marketing or communications, demonstrated experience managing complex projects.

Work Experience Preferred

  • Experience working in a government agency.

Physical Demands

  • Minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal.

Hazards

  • Minimal exposure to hazards are typically found in general office environment where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident.

Work Environment

  • Exposure to routine office noise and equipment.

The City of Arvada does not offer benefits to temporary and/or seasonal employees.  Temporary, Variable Hour and Health Plan Eligible employees will earn 1 hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum cap of 48 hours.
