Work Schedule: 4 days onsite, 1 day remote | Monday through Friday | 5 days/week |
Hiring Salary Range: $70,000 -$75,000 per year; starting salary is based on relevant experience.

Position Summary: The Accountant is responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and day-to-day execution of Butterfly Pavilion’s financial operations. The role manages core daily and monthly accounting functions, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit reporting standards. The Accountant oversees the processes required to ensure accurate financial reporting, assists with grant management and budget monitoring, and supports organizational compliance through preparation for annual audits and the timely filing of required state and local tax reports.
Working closely with the CFO, the ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting skills, excellent attention to detail, and a collaborative, solutions-oriented spirit to a mission-driven environment.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting

Process and manage all Accounts Payable using electronic systems (currently Ramp).

Process Accounts Receivable, deposits, and daily revenue recording.

Reconcile bank and credit card accounts.

Maintain accurate files and reports for AR/AP, bank statements and financial documentation.

Enter monthly journal entries, including payroll entries.

Lead monthly close processes and complete all balance sheet reconciliations.

Maintain and manage the general ledger and chart of accounts in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit reporting standards.

Ensure accurate tracking of restricted and unrestricted funds.
Compliance, Grants, & Audit Support

Track and monitor grant expenditures and reporting requirements.

Support budget monitoring and variance analysis.

Prepares and files monthly State, Local, and City Sales and Use tax.

Assist with preparation for annual audit and maintain audit-ready documentation.
Collaboration & Organizational Engagement

Report directly to and support the CFO in all core accounting functions.

Respond to vendor inquires in a timely and professional manner.

Develop a working knowledge of all aspects of Butterfly Pavilion business, including education, research and conservation efforts.

Position Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or similar required
- General ledger experience required
- 2-5+ years of Nonprofit Accounting Experience strongly preferred
- Solid understanding of GAAP
- Experience with QuickBooks and/or Sage Intacct preferred
- Experience with grant accounting preferred
- Proficient technology skills, including advanced skills with Microsoft Office and Excel
- Understanding of system integrations and financial software workflows
- Strong project and time management skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Analytical thinking and problem solving skills
- Initiative and sound decision-making
