Summary

The primary roles of the Constituent Engagement Manager are to assist in hiring and managing legislative aides and to work with the caucus communications team to create and execute public relations plans to ensure the Senate Democrats’ message is amplified outside the Capitol and in their respective communities.

Description

The Constituent Engagement Manager will coordinate with partners, help senators reach constituencies with targeted messaging, and highlight the work the Senate Democratic Caucus is doing to improve the lives of Coloradans throughout the state. This is a full-time position and reports directly to the Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff.

Constituents and Communications: 

  • Work with senators, and their legislative aides, to plan and manage constituent outreach efforts, including constituent services, social media, newsletters, organizing in-person town halls, digital and tele-town halls, letter writing, constituent calls, events in the district; and more 

  • Draft suggested email responses, talking points, newsletters and other outward facing communications to constituents in collaboration with the Communications Team

  • Assist legislative aides in creating outward-facing content to promote legislative successes

  • Develop and execute strategic public relations plans to highlight legislative accomplishments in member’s districts

  • Coordinate with state agencies, members of the federal delegation, and caucus members’ aides to troubleshoot and resolve members’ constituent issues 

Management and training: 

  • Manage legislative aide applications, screen aide applicants on behalf of Senators, and make hiring recommendations to Senators

  • Conduct regular check-ins with aides and assist with troubleshooting problems they may encounter

  • Support aides in managing their offices and connecting to any resources they need on behalf of their members

  • Develop and lead orientation and on-going trainings for newly hired and returning legislative aides

Preferred Skills and Experience: 

  • At least one year of managing or overseeing a team

  • At least one year of experience with developing communications or outreach strategy

  • Demonstrated ability to foresee problems and quickly develop solutions

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an interest in working on a team

  • Ability to work independently

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills

  • Strong drive and self-motivation; a willingness to work long hours and under tight deadlines

  • Proven track record of managing multiple projects at one time and prioritizing time effectively

  • Solid judgment and political sense, honesty, and discretion

  • Prior Colorado legislative experience and/or working knowledge of the legislative and political landscape in CO

  • A passion for progressive politics

Compensation 

Compensation is commensurate with experience and within the range of $60,000-75,000. Full-time employees are provided a comprehensive benefits package for the duration of their employment which includes Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) plans, health, dental, vision, and basic life insurance, short term disability, and an optional FSA or HSA. A full-time employee may accrue up to 10 paid sick days and 12 paid vacation days per year.
