Summary

The Director of Development is a key leadership position at Creede Repertory Theatre, responsible for leading all aspects of contributed revenue. This includes oversight of individual giving, grants, sponsorships, donor cultivation and stewardship, special events, and annual campaigns. The Director of Development partners closely with the Producing Artistic Director, Board of Trustees, and staff to design and implement a long-term fundraising strategy that sustains CRT’s artistic excellence.

Director of Development
Reports To: Producing Artistic Director / Executive Director
Direct Report: Donor & Patron Services Manager
Classification: Full-Time, Exempt
Start Date: On or before October 1, 2025
Salary Range: $60,000 to $65,000 annually (commensurate with experience)
Location: Creede, CO (Hybrid/Remote flexibility considered with regular in-person presence)

Primary Responsibilities
Strategic Fundraising Leadership

  • Implement and refine CRT’s Fund Development Plan in collaboration with the Producing Artistic Director / Executive Director and Board.

  • Establish and track annual fundraising goals and metrics; adjust strategies to ensure goals are met.

  • Serve as chief fundraising officer and lead voice in donor messaging, engagement, and stewardship.

Individual Giving & Major Gifts

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of major donors and prospects.

  • Support the Board and Producing Artistic Director in personalized cultivation strategies.

  • Design recognition and engagement opportunities tailored to major gift relationships.

Annual Giving Campaigns & Sponsorships

  • Design and execute annual fundraising appeals across print, digital, and event-based channels.

  • Lead sponsor recruitment and fulfillment for all CRT mainstage productions and programs.

  • Manage campaign collateral and donor communication materials.

Events & Donor Engagement

  • Plan and execute cultivation and stewardship events, including bi-annual Gala, receptions and special donor gatherings.

  • Serve as a public ambassador for CRT, attending performances and community events.

  • Work closely with the Producing Artistic Director and Board to activate VIP donor experiences and other initiatives.

Grants & Institutional Giving

  • Research and pursue new grant opportunities aligned with CRT’s mission and needs.

  • Write and submit high-quality proposals and reports to foundations, corporations, and government agencies in collaboration with appropriate staff members..

  • Manage a master grants calendar and maintain relationships with funders.

Development Operations & Data Management

  • Manage donor databases and ensure timely data entry, gift acknowledgment, and reporting.

  • Reconcile contributed income with the Business & Operations Manager on a regular basis.

  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold best practices in donor relations and recordkeeping.

Marketing & Public Communication Collaboration

  • Coordinate with the marketing team to ensure unified messaging across all development and promotional materials.

  • Contribute to CRT’s playbill, newsletters, website, and fundraising campaigns.

  • Oversee public-facing donor recognition efforts, including lobby displays and digital content.

Creede Repertory Theatre Team Member

  • Serve as a member of the administrative team.

  • Participate in the betterment of CRT’s facilities and buildings, as needed.

  • Assist in the season selection process.

  • Participate in off-season programming and the winter holiday production, if applicable.

  • Attend special events, performances, company functions, publicity functions, and other events as required by CRT.

  • Participate in all staff, company, production, design, Board of Trustees, and/or assigned committee meetings as required by CRT.

  • Assist in the creation and implementation of initiatives outlined in CRT’s 2030 strategic plan within your department and the institution at large.

  • Contribute to a respectful and inclusive environment in every aspect of your work.

Qualifications & Attributes

  • 3–5 years of professional fundraising experience, ideally within the arts or nonprofit sector.

  • Demonstrated success in grant writing, donor cultivation, and campaign management.

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Experience with donor databases or CRM platforms.

  • High level of initiative, professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail.

  • Passion for theatre and CRT’s mission; a collaborative and flexible working style.

  • Ability to work evenings/weekends as needed during the performance season.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range of $60,000-$65,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
