The Marketing Specialist supports the Parks and Recreation Department with marketing and communication efforts through a variety of marketing outlets including social media posting and engagement, website operations and content management, email marketing, and print campaigns.

The Marketing Specialist is expected to provide excellent communication and creative writing skills paired with a high level of experience using social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram,Tik Tok and LinkedIn

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

Website

  • Update web content regularly, including page architecture, photos, contact info, links, redirects, html widgets, etc. 

  • Create news flashes and calendar items as needed.

  • Serve as Department’s website liaison with the City.

  • Provide staff support and assistance with web updates and postings.

  • Conduct ongoing analysis of web performance using Google Analytics Tool.

  • Manage the overall design and operation of WebTrac (online registration site),make adjustments to improve the customer experience and ensure website meets the requirements on digital accessibility laws and HB21-1110.

  •  

 

Social Media

  • Oversee approved use of social media, post and monitor content on departmental social media sites, and ensure adherence to the Social Media Policy for appropriate use, and Department message and brand consistency.

  • Develop and curate content for social media posts and campaigns. 

  • Create and implement a content calendar with oversight from the Marketing Supervisor.

  • Conduct ongoing analysis of social media analytics and engagement.

  • Claim, obtain rights, and verify all online business listings for WRRC, AAC, RHE, PFOS, Anderson, and parks to maintain accurate and updated information, monitor activity and respond to reviews. (i.e. Google+, Google Maps, Yelp, Bing Places, Yellow Pages, etc.)

 

Email

  • Responsible for creating and maintaining updated email distribution lists through our email marketing platform including internal Parks & Rec staff email lists. 

  • Create and distribute electronic Department newsletters and occasional program/event specific emails and internal staff emails.

  • Review and edit Active Adult Center newsletters.

  • Review analytics to improve effectiveness and increase open and click-through rates.

 

Electronic Media

  • Manage the display screen software, schedule announcements for upcoming programs and events.

  • Use various programs such as QR code generator, bitly links, Canva, etc. to assist with marketing and communication of programs and events. 

  • Create surveys & evaluations in electronic form to acquire specific feedback from customers to aid in making business/marketing decisions.

 

Other Duties

  • Assist in the budget process by projecting revenues and expenditures; monitor expenditures as needed.

  • Collaborates with the marketing team to implement strategies and track the progress of campaigns.

  • Take an active part in the marketing planning process; implement the plan and keep it on track. Develop, review and implement Marketing Plan for the Department with oversight from Marketing Supervisor.

  • Write, prepare and edit content for electronic newsletters, website, social media and electronic display screens. Conduct copy editing of content submitted by staff for print publications including the Recreation Program Guide.

  • Assist the Graphic Designer in designing and creating original promotional items and graphics for use in digital media, social media, and printed collateral including newsletters, brochures, advertisements, and various promotional graphics.

  • Provide promotional support as well as logistical assistance for special events and programs.??

  • Develop Canva templates for staff use and review all submitted designs.?

  • Coordinate trainings and create training resources on various communication tools, promotions, etc..

  • Assist in writing press releases.??

  • Assist in updating facility, park and trail signage as needed.??

 

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

 

  • Technology: 

  • Advanced knowledge of computer software used by the City such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, social media platforms, and Knowledge of or ability to gain working knowledge of the recreation software program RecTrac 3.1.

  • Communication: 

  • Excellent grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills. Proficient in creative writing and content creation. 

  • Attention to detail is a must.

  • Strong ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Customer Service:

  •  Establish and maintain effective working relationships with?coworkers, other City staff, and the public.

  • Follow established department customer service philosophy. 

  • Time Management: 

  • Must have ability to organize and prioritize tasks.  

  • Ability to adapt to changing job priorities and conditions; multi-tasking and project management are essential.

  • Marketing: 

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of marketing as they relate to the recreation industry. 

  • Ability to plan ahead, work with content calendars and project lists, and understand the importance of a marketing plan and implementation of a brand.

  • Experience with developing and implementing a marketing plan, executing a brand, and identifying marketing trends.

Evidence Of Qualifications

Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or related field or equivalent experience isrequired.

  • Experience: Minimum of (3) years of previous marketing experience required. Experience working in Parks and Recreation preferred. Experience with RecTrac 3.1 preferred.

  • Substitutions: An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be substituted.

  • Background screen is required.

Working Conditions/Physical and Mental Effort

Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment involving working closely with others, hearing, seeing, speaking, writing; intermittent sitting, standing, and walking; requires ability to work independently and alone; requires reading, detailed work, confidentiality, problem solving, reasoning, and customer contact. Work environment may involve frequent exposure to noise. Continuous intense mental concentration and/or visual attention is required of the incumbent ? Equipment Used Computer, telephone, copier, audio/visual equipment, other office supplies.
