Summary

The Foundation is seeking a collaborative and detail-oriented Program Officer, responsible for the end-to-end administrative process and review of grant requests, including correspondence, site visits, meetings, tracking, and reporting. This position is part of a small and dynamic team, reports to the Executive Director, and works from the Foundation’s offices in downtown Denver, CO.

ABOUT THE FOUNDATION:
Founded in 1984, The Anschutz Foundation (TAF) was created by Philip F. Anschutz as a private charitable foundation. Over almost four decades, the Foundation has given substantially to hundreds of nonprofit organizations primarily concentrated in the Colorado Front Range. The Anschutz Foundation currently makes more than 500 grants annually in focus areas that include Health & Wellness, Human Services, Youth Development & Education, Quality of Life & Development, and Values & Relationships.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Grantmaking and Grants Monitoring

    • Evaluate assigned grant proposals, performing essential due diligence including in-depth review of financial statements and budgets.
    • Ensure grantees meet appropriate legal standards and adhere to Foundation policies and provide appropriate documentation.
    • Conduct site visits as part of the review and evaluation process.
    • Prepare clear, well-structured summaries and analyses to support the grantmaking committee.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the Foundation’s Blackbaud Grantmaking database. Ensure grant files are complete, consistent, and secure.
    • Produce high quality materials to support internal meetings, board sessions, and Foundation decision-making.
    • Review interim and final reports on grants to track progress and outcomes.

Community and Stakeholder Engagement

    • Clearly and consistently communicate with Foundation partners, grant applicants and grantees in a timely and respectful manner.
    • Develop collaborative, long-term relationships of trust with existing grantees.
    • Stay abreast of developments and potential partners in fields of interest to the Foundation.
    • Maintain knowledge about current trend/issues impacting the Foundation's portfolios.
    • Assist with Foundation-wide activities and special projects as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with non-profit practices, grant administration functions, and knowledge of Denver metro philanthropic landscape a plus.
  • Superior analytic and writing skills, including the ability to assess and synthesize complex information into a clear, concise summary.
  • Experience in reading financial statements, an understanding of due diligence, and an ability to assess an organization's health and effectiveness through qualitative reports and in-person conversations and site visits.
  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining the confidentiality, safety, security, and privacy of the employer.
  • Knowledge of non-profit grant tracking systems; knowledge of Blackbaud Grantmaking system a strong preference.
  • Depth of knowledge in one or more of the Foundation’s focus areas a plus, an ability to see the connections across the priority focus areas is essential.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Able to work in a team environment but also independently with limited supervision.
  • High degree of flexibility and the ability to receive feedback and adapt as needed
  • Must possess a high level of organization, accuracy, attention to detail, and follow-through, particularly with high volumes of information.

Physical Activity:

  • Able to operate a motor vehicle. Must have valid driver’s license.
  • May be required to travel by automobile (and occasionally by airplane) to grantee locations and meetings.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Primarily an office environment, and occasionally on grantee locations for site visits and other meetings. 
  • Business needs may require travel.
  • Occasional evening grantee event attendance.

COMPENSATION

  • The salary range for this position is $80,000 – $110,000 commensurate with experience. A generous benefits package is offered, including medical and dental insurance, retirement program, sick and vacation leave, and paid holidays.
