Job Summary:

The Economic Development Coordinator III plays a crucial role in executing the City of Greeley’s economic development strategy. This position involves execution of strategies and tactics for business recruitment/development, local business outreach and retention, small business development, retail attraction, and collaboration with public- and private-sector stakeholders. Reporting to the Economic Development Manager, the role requires a thorough understanding of local, regional, and state economic development trends and programs, strong analytical skills, and strategic thinking. 

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

Minimum Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, urban planning, economics, public policy, or a related field.
  • Five (5) + years of experience in economic development, business recruitment, or a related field, preferably in a government or economic development organization.
  • Proven track record in project management and business development.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree and/or economic development certification (CEcD) is preferred.
  • Economic development training. 
  • Bi-lingual communication.
  • Sales experience 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex economic information succinctly.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders, including business leaders, government officials, community organizations, and peers.
  • Fundamental knowledge of real estate land uses, including office, industrial, and retail.
  • Basic knowledge of local, state, and federal economic development programs, incentives, and regulations.
  • Proficiency in using CRM/database software and strong computer skills.
  • The ability to complete multiple tasks with varying deadlines while remaining organized.

Essential Functions:

  • Work on initiatives to attract new businesses, industries, and investments to the City of Greeley.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with local businesses, partner agencies, community organizations, and other stakeholders to promote economic development.
  • Identify growth opportunities and market trends.
  • Collaborate with partner agencies to create and implement economic development policies, incentives, and programs.
  • Assist businesses with expansion and relocation plans, financing, and navigating regulatory processes.
  • Support small business development programs, training initiatives, and partnerships with entities like the Small Business Development Center and local chambers of commerce.
  • Engage in workforce development programs and educational partnerships with institutions like UNC and Aims Community College.
  • Attend conferences, events, and meetings to promote economic opportunities and attract potential investors.
  • Develop and track metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of economic development strategies and initiatives.
  • Stay informed about economic trends, legislation, and best practices, and provide regular updates to the rest of the Economic Development Team.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Employee is subject to working alone, with groups, and/or attending meetings.
  • May be required to conduct business in alternate locations within City buildings or field sites, sometimes in formal settings.
  • May be required to work extended hours in the evening, holidays, or weekends.
  • Frequent interruptions and be required to manage competing priorities with inflexible deadlines.
  • Frequent participation in meetings.
  • Frequent contact occurs with employees and the public, in person and on the telephone.
  • Frequently is required to sit and talk or hear customers.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities with frequent interruptions and an expected high level of accuracy in work is expected.
  • Work is safe to having minimal hazards that are typically found in a general office environment where there is rarely little or no exposure to injury or accident.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
  • Employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data/figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading of printed materials; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices–graphs and gauges; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes. 
  • Employee is required to have visual acuity for close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 
  • Employee is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machinery where the seeing job is at or within arm's reach and to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment. 
  • Employee is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures for inspection purposes. 
  • Moderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions, frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 30 lbs) and use of medium weight tools; walking on uneven ground or having to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach while performing duties; entering/exiting manholes or vaults; walking near or across rivers and ditches; working in all weather conditions at times of excessive temperatures of heat and extreme cold, working in or near moving traffic with appropriate traffic control set up; 
  • The essential functions of this job require frequent balancing, bending/stooping, carrying/lifting light to heavy objects, climbing, fingering, grasping, repetitive motion, hearing, sitting, standing, talking, and walking. Occasionally the employee will be required to pull, push, reach, feel temperature, and kneel.
