KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Vice President of Marketing is a senior strategic leader responsible for building and executing DSST’s brand, creative direction, and marketing strategy to elevate the organization’s presence and impact. This role will drive DSST’s internal and external messaging, digital presence, and marketing campaigns. The VP will partner closely with the Vice President of Growth and Family Engagement to support enrollment goals, and with the Human Capital team to attract and retain transformational talent.

The VP of Marketing will oversee all aspects of brand reputation, ensuring that DSST presents a compelling, consistent, and authentic identity across all channels.

WHAT YOU’LL DO: 

Strategic Communications & Brand Leadership (20%)

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy aligned with DSST’s mission, values, and long-term organizational goals.

  • Elevate DSST’s brand identity and guide, ensuring consistent look and feel, values-driven messaging and positioning across all internal and external channels.

  • Proactively manage brand reputation and positioning, safeguarding DSST’s identity as a trusted and innovative leader in public education through innovative public relations efforts. 

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and Senior Leadership team on communications, brand, and messaging priorities.

  • Stay abreast of all internal communications and marketing trends to advance DSST’s goals. 

Creative Direction, Content Strategy & Campaign Execution (20%)

  • Lead creative, digital, and media teams to produce bold, high-quality, innovative, and mission-aligned marketing assets that convert and are market leading.

  • Direct the creation and execution of multi-channel campaigns across digital, social media, email, and other platforms to drive enrollment, talent acquisition, and family engagement.

  • Increase the development of compelling, culturally responsive, and student-centered content that reflects the diversity and brilliance of DSST communities aligned with increasing revenue and market share.

  • Manage communications during times of change or crisis, delivering timely, transparent, and effective messaging to protect and strengthen DSST’s reputation.

Strategic Planning, Market Research & Growth Enablement (15%)

  • Develop and execute marketing strategies that support long-term organizational objectives, drive brand awareness, lead generation, and revenue growth.

  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify and understand target audiences, community needs, and new growth opportunities.

  • Collaborate with other External functions and Human Capital teams to design targeted campaigns that resonate with families and attract transformational talent.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement (10%)

  • Partner with departments to ensure marketing strategies align with organizational priorities and goals.

  • Ensure alignment of messaging and brand identity across schools, the Home Office, and external audiences.

Performance Monitoring, Data Analytics & Optimization (10%)

  • Define and track OKRs to evaluate the effectiveness of communications and marketing strategies to grow exponentially in the market.

  • Leverage data and insights to optimize campaigns, refine messaging, and inform strategic decisions.

  • Demonstrate impact through regular analysis and reporting, driving continuous improvement and innovation.

Team Leadership & Resource Management (20%)

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing communications and marketing team, setting clear goals and fostering professional growth.

  • Manage internal staff, consultants, and vendors to execute communications goals with excellence.

  • Create, manage, and optimize the marketing budget, ensuring strategic allocation of resources and strong return on investment (ROI).

Additional Duties (5%) 

  • Model our Core Values, Commitment to the Human Condition, and our commitment to equity as a Leader within the Network

  • Play an active leadership role in building and sustaining Home Office culture

  • Engage with our school communities to actively build relationships between our schools and the home office

  • Participate in & support the execution of Home Office & Network-wide events

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field required; advanced degree (MBA, MPA, or related field) preferred.

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in marketing, communications, or brand management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role overseeing strategic marketing initiatives.

  • 5+ years of proven track record of leading brand development and marketing campaigns that drive measurable impact in enrollment, community engagement, or talent acquisition.

  • 5+ years of demonstrated success managing cross-functional teams, including creative, digital, and media functions, to produce high-quality, culturally responsive marketing assets.

  • 5+ years expertise in marketing analytics and performance metrics, with a strong ability to translate data into actionable insights and optimized strategy.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messaging for diverse internal and external audiences.

  • Strong strategic thinking and collaboration skills, with experience advising executive teams and partnering across departments to align on brand and marketing goals.

  • Deep understanding of culturally responsive marketing practices and a demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and representing diverse communities authentically.

  • Passion for public education and a deep belief in DSST’s mission, Core Values, and commitment to educational equity.

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced degree (MBA, MPA, or Master’s in Marketing, Communications, or a related field).

  • 12+ years of progressive experience in marketing, brand strategy, or communications, with 7+ 

  • Experience in the K–12 education space, charter networks, or similarly complex public-facing institutions, with an understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in public education marketing.

  • Proven success developing and leading integrated marketing strategies that support enrollment growth, talent recruitment, and community engagement across diverse audiences.
    Track record of building and managing cross-functional marketing teams (creative, digital, content, media, etc.) in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain a resilient, trusted brand identity, especially in equity-centered organizations.

  • Expertise in data-driven marketing, with the ability to leverage analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, CRM systems, social media insights) to inform strategy and optimize ROI.

  • Deep understanding of culturally responsive marketing practices, with experience crafting campaigns that authentically reflect the voices and identities of historically marginalized communities.

  • Fluency in digital marketing, including SEO/SEM, social media strategy, content marketing, and multimedia storytelling.

  • History of effective collaboration with C-suite leaders, Boards, and external partners to align marketing strategies with organizational goals.

  • Experience working closely with enrollment, recruitment, and development teams to co-create campaigns and unify messaging across initiatives.
