El Porvenir is an international nonprofit that works to improve the standard of living of rural Nicaraguans through water, sanitation, health education, and watershed restoration projects. To accomplish this mission, we need someone to take care of the details by processing donations, doing bookkeeping for US income and expenses, distributing El Porvenir materials, and more.
Description
Financial Responsibilities:
- Receive all donations, prepare weekly deposits, and prepare acknowledgement letters
- Input all donations into Salesforce and update donor information
- Maintain US financial records including all digital statements, receipts, and Quickbooks files
- Prepare monthly electronic draft financial reports by 7th of each month
- Ensure all obligations of EP in US are paid
- Ensure all owed obligations to EP are received
- Ensure 990s and other reports are submitted in a timely fashion
- Provide all necessary US documentation for audit and update required AJEs
- Ensure renewal of state registrations of nonprofit status
- Manage all insurance policies including worker’s compensation, directors and officers, and general liability
- Communicate as needed with Nicaraguan accounting staff
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Update and communicate IT requirements as a Salesforce admin
- Responsible for distribution of El Porvenir materials on request
- Maintain adequate supplies for printing and mailings
- Keep on top of external communications: phone, messages, e-mails
- Prepare and send thank you notes/acknowledgements to donors
- Support staff in multiple locations
- Support fundraising campaigns and events
Experience, Skills, and Attributes:
- Works well independently and is self-motivated
- Competency with Office programs, particularly Word and Excel
- Experience using Quickbooks or similar accounting program
- 5+ years of bookkeeping experience
- Excellent organizational skills
- Meets deadlines
- Previous experience with Salesforce or like CRM
- Proactively able to build relationships with remote team members (Nicaragua and US)
- Spanish language proficiency desired
