DPL is hiring an Events Manager for the Central Library. As the Events Manager, you will play a pivotal role in orchestrating a wide range of events and programs for our diverse community. This position requires a strategic thinker with excellent organizational and communication skills, as well as a passion for creating engaging and inclusive experiences. The role will be a 40 hour per week, full time position, with evening and weekend hours. 

Responsibilities:

Venue Management:

  • Develop policies, pricing and procedures for booking events at the Central Library.

  • Participate as a key stakeholder in the selection of an events management system for the library.

  • Secure and manage bookings for a 400-person venue within the Central Library.

  • Oversee the scheduling and utilization of 15 meeting, community and study rooms for various events and activities.

  • Collaborate with facilities staff to ensure that all spaces are set up and equipped according to event requirements.

Programming Coordination:

  • Work closely with library staff, community groups, and external partners to coordinate a diverse range of programs and events that align with the library's strategic roadmap.

  • Infuse events with the values of welcoming, connection, curiosity, equity, and stewardship.

  • Coordinate and implement engaging programming, including author talks, workshops, performances, and other cultural and educational events.

  • Coordinate library department display and exhibit plans to connect events and programming.

Event Planning and Execution:

  • Develop and maintain detailed event timelines, ensuring that all aspects of events are well-coordinated and executed seamlessly.

  • Integrate the values of welcoming and connection into event planning to create inclusive and community-driven experiences.

  • Collaborate with vendors, caterers, and other service providers to ensure the success of events.

  • Supervise a team of event support staff.

Community Engagement:

  • Foster relationships with local organizations, schools, and community leaders to enhance collaboration and participation in library events.

  • Act as a liaison between the library and the community to gather feedback and ensure that events are meeting the needs and interests of the diverse population.

  • Embrace the values of equity and stewardship in community engagement efforts.

Budget Management:

  • Develop and manage budgets for events, ensuring fiscal responsibility and efficiency.

  • Seek out sponsorship opportunities and grants to support programming initiatives, demonstrating a commitment to stewardship.

About You

About you

Our ideal candidate has:

  • Bachelor's degree in event management, library science, communications, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in event planning and coordination, preferably in a library or cultural institution setting.

  • Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Familiarity with community engagement strategies and programming development.
