The Job
The Geological Society of America (GSA) is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Marketing Membership Coordinator to support membership growth, engagement, and retention efforts. This role will play a key part in executing membership marketing campaigns, member communications, and member program analysis to drive engagement across all membership segments. The ideal candidate will have experience in non-profit membership and marketing services, with an emphasis on communicating to a large audience with wide-ranging interests across all stages of the member journey. A background in email marketing and communications is highly valued for this role. Success in this position will rely upon a keen ability to develop creative engagement content, analyze results and trends, and remain flexible to quickly pivot campaigns and strategies as needed.
Key Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
Membership Growth, Engagement, and Retention
- Promote GSA membership to students, early career professionals, professional members, senior, and lifetime members.
- Aid in developing and communicating GSA’s member value proposition.
- Support and implement member conversion campaigns targeting non-member event attendees.
- Conduct lapsed member campaigns and member onboarding campaigns to boost retention.
- Initiate and manage renewal notifications to encourage timely membership renewals.
- Process membership purchases at GSA meetings and external events to increase conversions.
- Order and manage member giveaways for external events
Marketing and Communications
- Create and distribute multiple monthly membership newsletters focusing on member benefits, upcoming events, and Society news.
- Support the development and execution of marketing materials for corporate memberships and coordinate corporate membership meetings.
- Promote GSA’s professional development and career offerings, including certifications, lifetime learning opportunities, grants and awards, and the GSA Job Board
- Create content for marketing pieces that support membership recruitment and engagement efforts.
- Draft and manage event-related text campaigns to encourage participation and membership sign-ups.
- Post updates and engage with members on the GSA Community Site.
- Collaborate with all departments to incorporate member benefit communications into GSA’s wider marketing efforts and portfolio.
- Create, edit, and post website content designed to engage members and convert non-member visitors to GSA program pages.
Data Analysis, Campaign Management, and Industry Engagement
- Initiate and analyze PropFuel campaigns to optimize engagement and retention.
- Track and report membership progress to staff regularly, highlighting trends and areas for improvement.
- Conduct trend analysis on membership patterns to identify opportunities for growth and retention.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervision:
- Does not supervise others.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field. Candidates with demonstrated expertise and relevant work experience are encouraged to apply.
- 2–3 years of experience in membership services, marketing, or related roles within an association or nonprofit setting.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills (including editing and proofreading), with the ability to connect a variety of audiences by crafting compelling marketing copy for numerous formats.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess campaign effectiveness and membership trends.
- Proficiency in digital marketing tactics, including content marketing, social media, and email marketing.
- Experience in physical and digital event coordination and on-site membership engagement.
- Familiarity with community management and fostering member engagement in online forums or platforms such as Higher Logic.
- Experience coordinating cross-functional programs or projects, and organizing and prioritizing numerous tasks and projects in order to meet deadlines.
- Dedication to continuous learning, professional development, and innovation, actively seeking opportunities to enhance skills and contribute to the advancement of the organization.
- Proficiency in MS Office, Adobe, Google Suite, and online meeting platforms like Zoom is essential. Strong knowledge of systems such as iMIS, Asana, HubSpot, Google Analytics, and CRMs, and Marketing Automation software. The ability to quickly adapt to new software and systems is required.
- Initiative, critical thinking, creativity, analytical reasoning, and effective process management.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with a professional demeanor and the capacity for mature judgment in interactions with all levels of society members, staff, and external contacts.
- The highest ethical standards and strong commitment to upholding GSA’s scientific integrity initiatives and RISE policies are required.

Working Environment / Physical Activities
- Extensive computer work (six or more hours per day).

- Travel: Requires occasional national and potential international travel.
The opportunity is a full-time, exempt, flexible position with a desired base in the Boulder, CO Headquarters with a Hybrid work schedule. The hourly rate is $26.44 – $31.25 per hour.
