Jeffco Public Schools (Jeffco) is located in Jefferson County, Colorado. It is the second largest school district in Colorado serving 69,000 students across 155 schools. With 14,000 employees, the district is the largest employer in Jefferson County and has provided educational excellence for more than 70 years.

SUMMARY

Serve as the Superintendent's principal strategic partner by coordinating executive priorities, aligning
cabinet-level decision-making, and ensuring cohesive, districtwide execution of the Superintendent's
vision and direction. Play a key role in setting and accomplishing both short- and long-term strategy and
goals for the district. In collaboration with the Superintendent, provide leadership across the cabinet
team, to identify and implement key initiatives that will lead to the meeting of district strategic goals.
Provide senior leadership for innovation, project management, stakeholder engagement, communication
strategies, and oversight of district initiatives to ensure successful execution. Lead planning decisions for
the district, and engage directly in critical areas or issues determined by the Superintendent to provide
greater cross- district integration of key projects; including quality implementation, goal orientation,
execution, and ultimate success. Lead strategic, targeted, and districtwide communications to ensure
clarity of the district's vision, mission, values, strategic plan, and key initiatives. Serve as primary
communications support for the Superintendent.

**Annual salary noted above is based on an 8 hour day and full days worked calendar. Any position that is less than a full FTE/8 hours per day or late start will be prorated accordingly.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENT

The successful new hire or rehired candidate will be responsible to complete and incur the fingerprinting and processing fee of $54.50 through an appropriate fingerprinting vendor and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, within 48 hours of offer acceptance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Oversee the district's strategic planning process and implementation of the strategic plan across all departments represented on the cabinet team. Participate in identifying key strategic and innovation opportunities for the school district in partnership with cabinet and department heads. Oversee implementation of components of strategic initiatives.
  • Develop and lead collaboration structures and frameworks for the cabinet team, aligned to the
    district's strategic plan and goals.
  • Develop key relationships in the district and in the community. Leverage these relationships to
    gather information; develop and fund new strategic ideas and pathways; and maintain connection
    to staff and community through plans and projects.
  • Communicate district business and strategic initiatives to the Board of Education through weekly
    updates.
  • Oversee the team that will partner with schools and departments to provide
    communications/public relations training, counsel, and advice.
  • Oversee development and implementation of an overall strategy for communications and a
    comprehensive communications plan and its strategies to support the District's mission, goals,
    and policies.
  • Lead development of communications for the Superintendent and collaborate with the
    superintendent to support communications, resources, materials, meeting agendas, and
    presentations for the board of education.
  • Use data to measure effectiveness of initiatives, adjust course as needed; and to provide updates
    to district and community members. Hold effective meetings with appropriate audiences, and
    utilize information from these sessions to inform other key staff members of issues, need for
    updates, and general feedback regarding strategic initiatives.
  • Oversee training, informational updates, and general information to district stakeholders, including
    board of education, staff, students, families, and the community in support of key initiatives.
  • Provide leadership in districtwide issues/crisis management, ensuring coordinated
    communication, rapid response, and alignment between cabinet, communications staff, and the
    Superintendent. Participate in the Incident Management System.
  • Oversee goal setting processes and support in direct relation to strategic plan or strategic
    initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE
A minimum of 7 years of experience in a senior-level district administrative role, with demonstrated
expertise in communications and public relations within a K'12 education setting. Experience leading
complex projects and strategic initiatives; supervising and developing teams; and guiding organizational
growth and improvement.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Bachelor's degree in communications, education, administration, management, or other related field
required. Master's degree preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of public-sector or K'12 governance structures, including roles of the Superintendent,
Cabinet, and Boards of Education. Knowledge of K-12 academic leadership and operational leadership.
Knowledge of strategic planning principles and organizational change practices. Knowledge of data
collection and analysis practices used to measure program effectiveness. Skilled in planning, organizing,
and coordinating multi-department initiatives. Skill in writing and presenting clear, accurate, and timely
information for varied audiences. Skilled in identifying problems, analyzing data, and recommending
actionable solutions. Skilled in managing communications strategies and supporting consistent district
messaging. Ability to lead cross-functional work and bring groups to consensus. Ability to translate
strategic plans into clear goals, actions, and timelines. Ability to manage several projects at once and
adjust to changing priorities. Ability to work effectively with executive leaders and provide clear guidance
and counsel. Ability to listen, gather feedback, and integrate input into plans and updates.

SPAN OF CONTROL
Directly supervises employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the
organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training
employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining
employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Responsible for both budget development
and accountability.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is primarily performed in a semi-secured office building with a typical office environment and risk
factors. Regularly visits both elementary and secondary school locations. Typical elementary school
building may also contain libraries, computer labs, and kitchens. Typical secondary school campus may
also contain libraries, science labs, computer labs, kitchens, auditoriums, gymnasiums, and possibly
specialized shops. May also visit other locations for public meetings. May be exposed to outside
elements and risk of injury while driving.
