Description

The Director of Development will design and lead a comprehensive fundraising strategy to secure and grow diverse revenue streams that sustain and expand CCW’s impact. This role ensures that CCW has the financial resources to advance systems-level change—shifting procurement practices of anchor institutions, expanding BIPOC business ownership, catalyzing community-owned real estate, and democratizing ownership models that close the racial wealth gap.

As CCW grows in visibility and ambition, the Director of Development will build strong philanthropic partnerships, deepen relationships with institutional and individual donors, and align fundraising strategy with programmatic goals and long-term organizational sustainability.

How You’ll Meet Those Objectives

Development Strategy & Revenue Growth (~35%)

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive annual and multi-year fundraising strategy aligned with CCW’s strategic priorities.
  • Establish clear annual fundraising goals across foundations, corporations, government, earned revenue, and individual donors.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward new and existing funding partners.
  • Create and manage a development dashboard to track progress toward revenue goals.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and program directors to align funding strategies with programmatic growth (Anchor Engagement, BEST, Feeding Anchors, COBRE, Back Office, and emerging initiatives).
  • Support the strategy, planning and execution of the capital campaign to secure CCW’s permanent home and entrepreneur space, including cultivating and soliciting major donors, coordinating campaign communications, and tracking process towards goals.
  • Collaborate with COBRE Director and Anchor Strategy Director to co-develop the community and institutional investment strategy for commercial real estate.

Foundation, Corporate & Government Grants (~30%)

  • Lead grant prospect research, proposal development, and submission processes.
  • Develop compelling cases for support grounded in CCW’s program logic models and impact goals.
  • Manage grant calendars and reporting requirements to ensure timely and accurate submissions.
  • Cultivate relationships with foundation and corporate program officers.
  • Support the development of government contracts and funding opportunities where aligned.

Individual Giving & Donor Stewardship (~20%)

  • Design and implement an individual donor cultivation and stewardship strategy.
  • Develop donor communications in collaboration with the Communications Director, including impact reports and fundraising appeals.
  • Recruit and build relationships with major gift donors.
  • Support board and staff engagement in donor relationship building.
  • Plan and execute donor engagement events and opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain CRM systems for donor tracking, reporting, and stewardship

Organizational Leadership & Cross-Team Collaboration (~10%)

  • Participate in CCW’s worker self-directed governance processes.
  • Support program staff in understanding funding priorities and how to integrate development considerations into program design.
  • Contribute to long-term financial sustainability planning.
  • Advance additional responsibilities aligned with organizational growth and impact.

Other Duties as Assigned (~5%)

Required Qualifications

  • A deep understanding of and commitment to racial and economic justice.
  • At least 4–6 years of professional experience in nonprofit fundraising, philanthropy, social enterprise development, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated success securing foundation and/or government grants.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders including funders, entrepreneurs, anchor institutions, and community leaders.
  • Excellent writing skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives grounded in systems change and equity.
  • Strategic thinker who can connect fundraising to long-term organizational vision.
  • Experience managing multiple deadlines and funding streams simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated success working independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment.
  • Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and CRM systems.
  • Comfort working in a small, entrepreneurial nonprofit environment with no support staff.
  • Enthusiasm for practicing horizontal management and contributing to a worker self-directed structure.
  • Reliable transportation (mileage reimbursed).

Desired Qualifications

  • Bilingual or multilingual skills.
  • Experience managing a capital campaign.
  • Knowledge of Community Wealth Building principles and inclusive economic development.
  • Experience with shared measurement, learning systems, or community-centered evaluation.
  • Proficiency in Asana, HubSpot, Zoho, CRM tools, or project management systems.

How We Invest in You Compensation: We offer competitive compensation ranging from $72,000-$78,000 for this position, depending on experience. Benefits:

  • Flexible Officing: Designated office space in Denver with in-office requirements at least one day per week, subject to change.
