About the Organization
The Tenure Facility Fundis a unique international funding mechanism dedicated to securing land and forest rights for Indigenous Peoples and local communities in the developing world. It provides grants and technical assistance to help implement tenure reform policies, test new rights-based approaches, and support community-government collaboration. Through grantmaking, assistance, and donor education, the Tenure Facility Fund advances practical, rights-based solutions that contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation, biodiversity conservation, sustainable development, gender equality, poverty reduction, and conflict resolution.
The Tenure Facility Fund is the US-based non-profit arm of Tenure Facility, registered in Sweden. It is also the fiscal sponsor of Turning Tides, an international grant facility dedicated to supporting the tenure and rights of local communities, small-scale fishers and fish workers, and Indigenous Peoples.
About the Position
The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and assisting with the month-end close processes compliance with GAAP. Expanded responsibilities include working to improve and enhance current systems, applications and documentation, supporting the grantmaking activities of Tenure Facility Fund. Assisting in the maintenance and reporting of the HR and employee benefit programs. Support the additional reporting needs of Tenure Facility and Turning Tides. The Staff Accountant works closely with Tenure Facility and Turning Tides finance, administrative, and operations staff in support of the One TF initiatives.

This position reports to: CFO/COO
Key Responsibilities
- Support the CFO for all accounting functions in addition to financial analysis and reporting
- Perform the day-to-day accounting functions including the month-end close
- Manage and perform financial accounting, accounts payable, budget, and cash receipts
- Perform accounting and banking reconciliations as part of the monthly accounting close and other periodic reviews
- Input general ledger account detail entries and adjustments
- Support donor reporting. Provide financial reporting on an as-needed basis
- Support year-end book closing. Assist with regulatory reporting (Form 990) and coordinate with external auditors to audit work papers and assist with other audit requests
- Perform payroll, benefit, and accrual analysis
- Support management of consultancy agreements/contracts
- Maintain up to date organizational policies and procedures
- Research employee benefit insurance policies – health, dental, vision and life insurance and benefit administration.
- Ability to maintain confidential and highly sensitive information and issues.
- Other duties as assigned by leadership
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or professional degree in accounting or finance or equivalent years of professional experience.
Experience:
- Five or more years of accounting experience, business operations and/or analysis
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP accounting, finance, and budget principles.
- High proficiency in MS Excel
- Moderate proficiency in MS Word and Outlook
- Strong administrative and organizational skills
- Detail oriented with exceptionally strong follow-up and follow-through skills
- Prior experience working with international grants and grantmaking
Experience, Preferred:
- Advance degree in Accounting or Finance
- Experience in nonprofit sector
- Experience using QuickBooks Online
- Experience developing/using Expensify
- Active CPA designation

Employment Terms and Compensation:
This is a part-time, fully-remote, salary position
Travel will not be required.
Potential option to increase hours in the future.
Compensation:
Compensation will be based on experience. Full-time base salary $95,000 – $115,000
