About the Craig Daily Press The Craig Daily Press is located in Craig, Colo., which is 40 miles west of Steamboat Springs. The newspaper has roots back into the late 1800s and distributes 3,500 copies Monday through Friday and 9,500 copies Saturday in Craig and throughout Moffat and Rio Blanco County. The Craig Daily Press converted from a weekly publication to a daily paper Monday, Feb. 11, 1963. Craig is the seat of one of the largest geographic counties in Colorado which combines a rich tradition of the Old West with a new vision of economic growth. The area is home to a population that has demonstrated steady growth during the past decade with a growing retail base and some of the most productive coal mines in the world. In addition, it is also known as the "big game" capital of Colorado as hunters from throughout the United States travel to Moffat County in the fall to hunt elk, deer and antelope. The Craig Daily Press is owned by Colorado Mountain News Media, which is a a division of Swift Communications. The paper was formally owned by WorldWest Limited Liability Company, which sold the paper to Swift in August 2016. The transaction also included the purchase of the Steamboat Pilot & Today that was also previously owned by WorldWest. Swift Communications was established in 1975 and is based in Carson City, Nevada. The company owns more than two dozen regional and local publications in California, Nevada, Colorado, Utah, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Swift Communications specializes in serving mountain resort communities with daily newspapers, as well as large, national circulation and glossy magazines and a number of online products.
