The Montessori School of Denver (MSD) is offering a unique opportunity for a dynamic, detail-oriented individual to join our fundraising team as an Associate Director of Development. This new position was created to help meet the school's growing needs and will provide high-level relational and administrative support for individual, corporate, and foundation fundraising efforts at MSD. 

The Associate Director of Development, a key member of our team, reports directly to the Director of Development and interacts daily with a diverse group of internal and external contacts, including donors, volunteers, board members, all levels of staff, and the general public. The Associate Director of Development will also work closely with the Director of Development and Head of School to develop and implement strategies aligned with the organization's financial and community engagement goals for the capital campaign. 

The core job responsibilities of the Associate Director of Development are multifaceted. They include executing the strategy for annual donor activities and developing non-major donors, the donor database, and related records, and working with fundraising and event volunteers to manage and execute all fundraising and donor cultivation events. The Associate Director of Development will also manage a portfolio of donors and prospects related to our annual fundraising campaign, special events, and the capital campaign. This role will also attend and administratively manage Board of Trustees Development Committee meetings. 

This is a full-time, on-site position based at our campus in Denver, CO. Occasional weekends and evening work are required. 

Annual Fund & Special Events 

  • Partner with the Director of Development to execute the annual fund campaign and manage the interdependencies of contributing teams to implement the campaign successfully 
  • Manage mid-level annual fund prospects' cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship 
  • Proactively supports the ongoing analysis of member and donor programs and keeps up-to-date on best practices in the field 
  • Collaborate with the Manager of Family Programs and Events to support the planning and execution of special events 
  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications Team to compose appeal letters, impact reports, annual fund materials, website content, and constituent communications 
  • Ensure all transactions are accurately entered in Raiser’s Edge 

Capital Campaign 

  • Support donor research and the identification and qualification of campaign prospects; work closely with the Director of Development and Head of School to manage prospect moves 
  • Work closely with the Director of Development and Campaign Consultant to create donor profiles and manage donor information in Raiser’s Edge 
  • Support campaign stewardship activities, specifically gift acknowledgments 
  • Support the planning and execution of campaign donor cultivation events 

Data Management and Administration 

  • Administers and manages all aspects of the vehicle donation program, including donor relations, vendor relations, advertising, budget oversight, gift processing, and acknowledgment 
  • Supports the Director of Development in all aspects of the job, especially management of the director’s calendar, emails, contacts, reports, and meeting minutes. 
  • Electronically updates addresses and all other data in donor records in Raiser’s Edge database; generates queries and reports as requested and assists in maintaining all donor files. Ensures the confidentiality of information contained in the files. 
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and job-related/career development workshops related to prospective research and annual giving. 
  • Performs additional duties as requested. 

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Two or more years of professional experience in development, non-profit management, or a related field 
  • Experience managing and prioritizing a schedule of activities for senior staff, board members, or essential volunteers 
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects without compromising quality 
  • Experience supporting events, conferences, and meetings 
  • Proficiency with office technology and donor information systems 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 
  • Working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge is a plus 
  • Ability to develop effective professional relationships with a diverse spectrum of donors, vendors, faculty, staff, and volunteers 
  • Understanding of the sound judgment required about confidential projects, personnel, school, or student matters 
  • Embodies a cooperative team approach with colleagues and a willingness to take on responsibilities beyond those explicitly defined 
  • The ability to demonstrate grace under pressure and creatively problem-solve 
  • Proven managerial skills and the ability to develop and inspire staff and volunteers 
  • Flexibility and a high tolerance for change and ambiguity 
  • When necessary, you must be physically able to assist with event set-up and breakdown, including lifting to 25 lbs 
  • Enthusiasm for the values and mission of the Montessori School of Denver
