Summary

Rapids Youth Soccer, a Colorado nonprofit organization with a budget of $20M and nearly 100 full- and part-time employees, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The CFO will be responsible for the organization's financial strategy, management, planning, and reporting. This individual will work closely with the Executive Director, Director of Operations, Strategy & Analysis, and Board of Directors to ensure the financial sustainability and growth of the organization.

A destination youth soccer club serving 12,000 players across 100 miles in Colorado, Rapids Youth Soccer focuses on “Developing Remarkable Coaches” through its purpose of "The Heart Behind the Crest." The club's commitment revolves around a comprehensive player development process that encompasses both on-field skills and off-field growth. We aim to instill a lifelong passion for the game and equip players, coaches, and staff with the skills gained during their Rapids journey to excel in all their endeavors.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

Architect

  • Develop a comprehensive vision, strategy, and framework for achieving long-term financial excellence across the club.

  • Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls that ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations

  • Prepare and manage the annual budget process, including revenue and expense forecasting, variance analysis, and budget reporting.

  • Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.

  • Oversee the organization's accounting functions, which include general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, grant accounting, and tax reporting.

  • When necessary, initiate the annual audit process to ensure the timely submission of all required tax filings and financial statements.

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to identify and pursue new revenue streams and funding opportunities.

  • Provide financial analysis and guidance to program directors and other stakeholders to support their effective decision-making.

  • Ensure you comply with all donor restrictions and grant requirements.

  • Manage relationships with banks, vendors, and other external stakeholders.

  • Lead and manage a team of accounting professionals, and provide mentorship and professional development opportunities.

    Align

  • Partner with the Executive Director, Director of Operations, Strategy & Analysis, and regional leadership to ensure financial goals align with club-wide operational and strategic initiatives.

  • Partner with the Chief Administrative Officer to update human resources operations, such as staff benefits, onboarding, performance management, and other services via the club’s HR & payroll platform.

  • Create financial dashboards and KPIs to provide visibility to leadership and program managers across operational regions.

  • Collaborate with Directors of Operations, Facilities, and Programs to ensure financial resources support growth, accessibility, and operational excellence.

    Grow 

  • Develop long-term financial strategies to support club expansion, facility development, and scholarship opportunities.

  • Collaborate on grant writing, corporate partnerships, and fundraising campaigns to diversify revenue sources.

  • Drive the decision-making for investment in financial technologies and systems to improve efficiency, transparency, and data accuracy.

  • Develop financial training programs for directors and program leaders to equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary for financial literacy and effective budget management.

  • Guide scenario planning and financial risk assessments to support innovation and sustainable growth.

    Own

  • Take ownership of the organization's financial health, ensure fiscal responsibility, and drive strategic financial growth.

  • Champion data-informed financial decisions and utilize analytics to guide board reporting and planning.

  • Hold direct reports accountable for their accuracy, timeliness, and reporting standards.

  • Model proactive leadership, anticipate financial challenges, and provide solutions to ensure long-term sustainability.

    DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

  • Strategic financial leadership experience, preferably in nonprofits or youth sports organizations.

  • Expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis for organizations of $10M+ annual budgets.

  • Experience leading audits, managing grants, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with staff, board members, and external partners
