POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Communications Manager supports the Steamboat Communications Department in all areas with specific oversight of resort media relationships and athlete programming and. This role is pivotal in driving Steamboat Resort’s brand position as a leader in the industry via internal & external communications and public relations tactics.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Communications and Public Relations Planning and Execution

Assist Senior Communications Manager and Director in executing annual public relations plan to achieve department, BU and resort strategies and goals.

Deliver compelling brand stories to secure media coverage across local, national, and international outlets

Manage communications video and still shoots including PR, Athlete, internal comms, Alterra Mountain Company collaboration, etc.

Create annual Press Kit
-
Interface with media, act as resort spokesperson when Director and Manager are out.

Develop and maintain long term relationships with local, domestic and online contacts including television, radio, print, online, social, airline, lodging and travel industry partners, influencers and media stakeholders
-
Support implementation of public relations efforts for hotel and resort including releases, industry organizations, special events, Weather Summit, etc
-
Work with other resort departments, Alterra departments, local organizations and industry partners.

Work with resort content creators to assist with photo/video shoot needs including model procurement, location scouting, legal documentation, etc.

Compliance with all company policies and procedures as well as any regulatory requirements

Act as resort spokesperson or assign appropriate spokesperson when needed
-
Assist managing onsite press centers for events, as needed
-
Liaison for Colorado Ski Country, USA
-
Support Senior Comms Manager with internal communications needs
-
Represent as Steamboat PR Contact for external media related meetings, organizations, trips, etc.
Media Hosting
-
Initiate, pitching/identify/vet hosting opportunities, press requests, FAM tours, and visits
-
coordinate and finalizing hosting itineraries
-
on-site hosting duties including guiding, dining, activities participation etc
-
execute all press trip follow-ups and media placement finalization (including story pitching, fact checking, etc)
-
create and share media exposure/ROI reports
-
work with third party contracts to fulfil collaborative hosting including Alterra, CTO, Visit Denver, CSCUSA, partner resorts, brand partners, etc.
Athlete Programming:
-
Manage SSRC’s athlete program including sponsored active and non-competing athletes contracts, Olympian programming and participation, and identifying up and coming athletes.

Conduct contract negotiations, compensation and benefits; scheduling; performance tracking and budgeting.

Liaison between athletes and internal/external resort-based activations.

Collaborate with Social Media and Marketing departments for Athlete activation
-
Adapt programming as needs change/develop.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
-
5+ years experience in resort, tourism, or hospitality communications and/or communications/public relations agency; or traditional journalism outlet
-
Familiarity with standard industry practices in professional communications and public relations
-
Proven organizational skills, with project management experience a plus

Excellent written and oral communication skills required

Existing working contacts and relationships with Colorado and national hospitality, travel, and mainstream media
-
Experience in community relations, including identifying and engaging key stakeholders such as residents, community leaders, and city officials
-
Copywriting experience
-
Ability to facilitate strategic dialogue and problem-solving across multiple departments

Must be a self-starter and capable of multitasking

Capable of representing the company in a professional and knowledgeable manner

Availability to travel to domestic and international media events, meetings, conferences, and trade shows on behalf of the resort

Preparedness to host frequent meal/event functions with media and VIP guests
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
-
Preference for degree in communications, new media, journalism, public relations- but not required.
The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on a range of factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term and long-term incentives.
Steamboat area base salary range: $60,000 – $70,000 per year
