You are interested in outdoor experiential programming, and view nonprofit development as a chosen career path. Reporting directly to the Director of Development & Marketing, your main job will be to advance foundation and major donor relationships with a steadfast focus on data management. This will be achieved in the following ways:

Foundation & grant Management: Each year, First Descents receives more than $800,000 across 50 unique foundation accounts with ambitious plans to increase revenues from additional grant-making institutions. You will use Salesforce to track and manage a comprehensive calendar of grant-related correspondence, including submission and report deadlines. Experience with and passion for grant writing is an added bonus. You must love to write and excel at persuasive written communications. You will also employ a series of tools (Foundation Search, Guidestar, etc.) to identify and solicit prospective foundation partners. Your work will also include crafting LOIs to foundations in order to support major donor visits conducted by FD’s Founder, Executive Director, Director of Development & Marketing, and key members of the Board.

Major Donor Relationship Management: Advancing individual giving and donor retention while practicing one-of-a-kind stewardship is paramount. You will manage the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of 100 donor accounts. Salesforce will be used to manage your assigned donor portfolio and diligently track contact reports, open opportunities, and engagement strategies. You will also run point on list management and generate reports for the Director of Development & Marketing. Your work will entail some travel as you arrange meaningful donor visits and participate in regional receptions.

Database Management: As Development Officer, you will live in Salesforce and track everything except the weather and what you ate for lunch. You will enter every call report, stewardship action, open opportunity, follow-up activity, and bit of relevant information on each donor’s account. Your diligent adherence to data entry will populate a comprehensive Salesforce dashboard that will allow you to effectively manage your assigned foundation and major donor accounts as well as track important KPIs. You will work in close concert with the Director of Development & Marketing, and the Executive Director, to host monthly portfolio reviews to manage inbound prospects. . Experience with the Salesforce CRM platform is strongly preferred.

Communication Skills: You must have excellent written and oral communication skills. Moreover, you must love writing and enjoy leading meaningful discussions that strengthen relationships. Your ability to clearly articulate FD’s mission and case for support is required for success in this role. You will effectively balance a heavy volume of writing alongside donor visits, calls, and stewardship activities.

Inside Details:

This is a salaried position based at our HQ in Denver, CO, working typically from around 8:30am to 4:30pm on weekdays. You need to be open to working late and on weekends when required – especially to attend and help organize key donor events.

The salary range for this position is $45,000-$55,000 annually.
