Summary

The Director of Development is responsible for leading all fundraising and community engagement efforts to diversify LAEF’s funding streams, deepen community partnerships, and create long term sustainability for the organization. The leader in this role will oversee the development department and work to increase revenue through established funding partnerships, new funding partnerships, donor events, and alumni engagement. This is a full-time, exempt position.

The Director of Development is responsible for leading all fundraising and community engagement efforts to diversify LAEF’s funding streams, deepen community partnerships, and create long term sustainability for the organization. The leader in this role will oversee the development department and work to increase revenue through established funding partnerships, new funding partnerships, donor events, and alumni engagement. This is a full-time, exempt position.  

Areas of Responsibility 

Strategy  

· Partner with the President & CEO
to develop and implement an annual fundraising and community engagement plan.  

· Help foster a culture of philanthropy
across LAEF, engaging staff, Board, and volunteers as ambassadors and champions
of fundraising. 

· In collaboration with the President & CEO,
and any development/communications staff or contractors, align major gifts
strategy with overall fundraising, marketing, and organizational objectives. 

· Contribute fundraising insights to organizational
strategic planning, annual budgeting, and revenue forecasting. 

Fundraising

· Cultivate relationships with the Board
of Directors to leverage their influence to attract new prospective donors and
develop a donor pipeline.  

· Conduct regular donor outreach,
including in-person visits, phone calls, virtual meetings, tours, and event
engagement to deepen relationships and communicate impact. 

· Partner with the President & CEO
to prepare for and participate in high-level donor meetings and solicitations;
provide talking points, briefing materials, proposals, and follow-up.  

· Serve as liaison and team lead for
LAEF’s alumni and Young Professionals (YP) board to build a long-term pipeline
of mid-level and future major donors. 

· Plan and execute donor cultivation and
stewardship activities (e.g., small gatherings, house parties, breakfast
meetings, campus/partner site visits, networking events) that attract and
engage new prospects. 

· Develop and oversee donor
communications, including impact reports, customized acknowledgements,
proposals, and stewardship touchpoints. 

 Administration  

· Partner with the President & CEO
and the finance department in the preparation of the annual fundraising budget.  

· Create and implement a plan to utilize
the current CRM database system.  

· Track performance goals of the
Development Department including achievement of fundraising goals, dollars
raised, donors acquired, renewals, retention and attrition rates, average gift,
increased gifts (donor movement), and other fundraising measures.  

· Provide quarterly development reports
to the President & CEO and the Board of Directors and manage board
Development & Community Engagement Committee. 

 Qualifications

At least 5 years of direct professional experience in fundraising in a higher-ed or non-profit environment. Demonstrated experience and success in resource development and meeting/exceeding fundraising/financial goals in previous positions. Experience collaborating with community volunteers, including Board of Directors. Experience in project management, communications, budget development, database management. Experience with all Windows/Microsoft Office applications. Superior communication and interpersonal skills. Bilingual a plus.

 Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary is $85,000.We take into consideration a candidate’s years of fundraising experience, educational level and special skills like being bilingual, relevant professional certifications and direct lived experience.
