I. Job Summary
Responsible for the research, development, planning and implementation of the strategies and programs that will enhance WM's relations with the community, the public, governmental and regulatory authorities, shareholders and employees
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinate with Public Sector and Sales and determine action steps that eliminate overlap and identified opportunities to advance business goals, maximize charitable and community communications and donations, and ensured coordinated media strategy.

Manages government and regulatory affairs, including lobbying before state legislatures and elected officials.

Analyzes and implements strategic plans to impact proposed legislation, regulations, or local ordinances in favor of WM.

Directs lobbyists and PR personnel on strategy to convey the Company’s position.

Develops communication materials and resources including media and outreach materials, advertising, writing/editing newsletters, speeches, and presentation to promote greater awareness and understanding of WM business and operations.

Works with marketing and advertising personnel to identify opportunities to increase company visibility, advance business goals, maximize communications while ensuring coordinated media strategy.

Develops contacts and relationships with media representatives to create opportunities for keeping the company in front of public and the trade.

Creates and coordinates execution of district community relations plans including grassroots initiatives, charitable donations, local government affairs, media relations and communications to support expansions, project development and meet business objectives.

Directs WM response to business issues or events that will impact the public.

Works with district/business unit managers to develop and promote community relations programs including business and education programs.

Manages communication costs including costs of preparation for public meetings, special events, advertising and publications by sharing best practices and using corporate resources.

Assists and coaches company staff with public speaking engagements, presentations, and preparation of articles for publication.
III. Qualifications
A. Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Public Affairs/Relations, Business Administration or similar area of study, and twelve or more years previous government affairs and public relations experience.
B. Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree or Law Degree, or equivalent experience, in Public Affairs/Relations, Business Administration or similar area of study, and twelve or more years previous government affairs and public relations experience

The expected base $137K – $200K for this “office/on-site” or “hybrid” position. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors
