CSU Strata is a private, not-for-profit corporation, legally separate from Colorado State University (CSU), located in Fort Collins, CO. Founded in 1941, CSU Strata supports and serves the Colorado State University System (CSU System) through intellectual property management and technology transfer services, strategic real estate management, development services, advanced laser services, special project oversight, and operational management. The CSU System consists of Colorado State University Fort Collins (CSU), CSU Pueblo, CSU Global, CSU Todos Santos Center, and the CSU Spur campus at the National Western Center.
SENIOR FINANCIAL REPORTING ANALYST
CSU Strata is seeking a Senior Financial Reporting Analyst, an individual contributor responsible for transforming financial and operational data into meaningful information that supports organizational decision-making, financial stewardship, and effective communication of CSU Strata's financial performance. The position leads financial analysis, forecasting, management reporting, financial modeling, and the preparation of internal and external financial reports. Working closely with the Vice President of Finance and Controller, Executive Leadership Team, business unit leaders, and accounting staff, the position evaluates financial results, identifies trends and emerging issues, develops forecasts and scenarios, and communicates financial information in a manner that supports both strategic and operational decisions. The position serves as a primary resource for the development and continuous improvement of financial reporting and analytical capabilities across the organization. Responsibilities include developing management dashboards and key performance indicators; preparing financial presentations and reports for executive and governance audiences; supporting annual and long-range financial planning; analyzing organizational initiatives and investments; and assisting with audited financial statements and other external financial reporting. This is a senior professional position with substantial independent responsibility and organizational visibility.
The position does not supervise employees and is not responsible for directing the day-to-day work of the accounting staff.
QUALIFICATIONS – KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
Required Education
Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, business administration, or a closely related field.
Preferred Education and Professional Credentials
- Master's degree in finance, accounting, economics, business administration, or a closely related field.
- CPA, CMA, CFA, FPAC, or similar professional certification is desirable.
Required Experience
- Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in financial planning and analysis, financial reporting, corporate finance, strategic finance, accounting and finance, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience developing financial forecasts and advanced analytical models.
- Demonstrated experience performing variance, trend, scenario, and financial-performance analysis.
- Demonstrated strong understanding of financial statements and the relationships among the income statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flows.
- Demonstrated ability to identify financial drivers and explain why financial results differ from expectations.
- Experience preparing financial or management reporting for senior leadership.
- Experience working with complex financial and operational datasets and presenting conclusions drawn from those data.
- Experience with budgeting and forecasting.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel or comparable financial modeling tools.
- Experience using enterprise financial systems and extracting data for analysis and reporting.
- Ability to explain complex financial information to non-financial audiences.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in an organization with multiple business lines, entities, programs, or funding sources.
- Demonstrated ability to formulate assumptions, test scenarios, and recognize limitations in financial models.
- Experience in higher education, nonprofit organizations, real estate, technology commercialization, financial services, or another environment involving complex financial structures.
- Experience preparing or supporting GAAP financial statements and annual financial audits.
- Experience developing dashboards or business-intelligence reporting using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or comparable platforms.
- Experience evaluating capital projects, financing alternatives, investments, or new business initiatives.
- Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Management Reporting & Business Intelligence
Develop and maintain management reporting that provides timely, relevant, and actionable financial information to executives and business-unit leaders. Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports, dashboards, key performance indicators, presentations, and analytical materials for executive leadership, the Board of Trustees, and other stakeholders. Translate complex financial information into clear insights and recommendations for audiences with varying levels of financial expertise. Continuously improve reporting processes to enhance clarity, efficiency, timeliness, and usefulness.
Financial Planning, Forecasting & Analysis
Develop and maintain financial forecasts, projections, models, and scenario analyses to support short- and long-term organizational planning. Analyze financial performance, including revenues, expenses, margins, cash flow, capital requirements, and key financial measures. Perform budget, forecast, and period-over-period variance analyses; identify business drivers, trends, risks, and opportunities; and provide forward-looking insights to support organizational decision-making. Partner with leaders to improve financial assumptions and develop multi-year projections supporting strategy, investments, and capital planning.
External Financial Reporting
Coordinate periodic and annual external financial reporting in collaboration with the Vice President of Finance and Controller and accounting staff. Prepare financial statements, supporting schedules, analyses, disclosures, and audit documentation. Support financial reporting requirements for governmental entities, lenders, rating agencies, financing partners, bondholders, CSU System stakeholders, and other external users. Maintain reporting calendars and processes that promote accurate, consistent, complete, and timely reporting, and provide financial reporting support for complex transactions and reporting requirements.
Budgeting & Long-Range Financial Planning
Provide analytical leadership for the annual budgeting process and develop budget models, assumptions, templates, tools, and consolidated reporting. Evaluate proposed budgets in relation to historical performance, organizational priorities, financial capacity, and expected business conditions. Prepare organization-wide budget summaries and presentations and develop rolling forecasts to provide management with an updated financial outlook. Support long-range planning by integrating operating forecasts, capital requirements, financing assumptions, investments, and strategic initiatives.
Strategic & Decision-Support Analysis
Establish consistent financial reporting and analytical processes across the organization and support cross-functional projects and process improvement initiatives. Conduct financial analyses of business initiatives, investments, partnerships, projects, programs, and significant contractual commitments. Develop business cases and financial models incorporating cash flow, return on investment, payback, financial sustainability, and scenario analysis. Provide analytical support for real estate, financing, investment, technology-transfer, and other strategic initiatives, as well as special analyses requested by the Vice President of Finance and Controller. Present findings objectively, clearly communicating key assumptions, risks, uncertainties, and financial tradeoffs.
Accounting & ERP Support
Provide support to the Accounting team with routine accounting activities, including journal entries, month-end account reconciliations, audit requests, and related financial documentation. Cross-train with other members of the Accounting team to provide operational coverage during planned and unplanned absences and help ensure continuity of critical accounting functions. Assist with the maintenance, configuration, and ongoing improvement of accounting and real estate-related ERP systems, including supporting system updates, data integrity, reporting, and process enhancements.
Post Issuance Compliance
Assist with administering post-issuance compliance procedures in accordance with the organization's written policies and applicable IRS regulations to include arbitrage rebate, private use tracking, and record retention. Maintain accurate and complete records related to municipal securities, including bond proceeds, expenditures, and investment earnings. Monitor and document use of bond-financed facilities to ensure ongoing tax-exempt compliance and identify any potential private business use. Collaborate with legal counsel, municipal advisors, and other third-party professionals to ensure ongoing compliance with post-issuance requirements. Ensure compliance with all continuing disclosure obligations, including preparation and filing of required documents on the MSRB's EMMA system.
Perform other duties as assigned that are necessary to meet and advance CSU Strata’s objectives.
Salary Range: $100,000-125,000 annualized, depending on qualifications
