The Colorado Municipal League is recruiting qualified applicants for the position of Legislative & Policy Advocate. The successful applicant will join a team of highly skilled individuals committed to advocacy, information, and training for and on behalf of CML's 271 member cities and towns. This full time position will primarily advocate before the Colorado General Assembly and executive branch departments and agencies. The position is open until 7/11/2025.

The Colorado Municipal League (CML) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization representing 271 Colorado municipalities and has been in existence since 1923. CML’s Vision is “Empowered cities and towns, united for a strong Colorado,” and our mission of “Advocacy, information, and training supporting exceptional municipal governance” drives our day-to-day activities on behalf of and for our members.
 

Legislative & Policy Advocate

CML is recruiting candidates for the position of Legislative & Policy Advocate. The position will research, analyze, disseminate information, and advocate municipal positions and policies on issues before the Colorado General Assembly, state agencies, and other public and private organizations for the benefit of the League’s members. Additionally, the position will: author articles, summaries, or other relevant communications to members on advocacy issues as assigned; develop and maintain relationships with legislators, lobbyists, state agencies, and others; represent CML and serve as liaison to specific advisory boards and committees; participate in CML annual conference program development, membership services and outreach activities; and research and respond to inquiries from members, media, and others.

The successful candidate will be a team player, an excellent communicator, a relationship builder, and possess high moral and ethical standards. They will assist the CML legislative advocacy team in accomplishing its goals of year-round advocacy and providing enhanced value to CML members through collaboration with other departments of the League. 

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in political science, public administration, or related field. A graduate degree in a related field is highly desirable. Individuals with experience in local government, legislative advocacy, or other government-related experience will be strongly considered. Additional experience in subjects of criminal justice, courts, utilities, and/or telecommunications is highly desirable.

Salary range: $89,600 – $134,400. Salary will be commensurate with skills and qualifications. This position may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and remote work.
