POSITION OVERVIEW
Colorado Black Health Collaborative (CBHC) seeks a passionate, strategic, and culturally rooted Executive Director to lead the organization in advancing health equity for Black Coloradans. This position offers the opportunity to shape the direction of a highly respected, community-centered nonprofit fostering impactful health initiatives, advocacy, and systems change.
The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for providing strategic leadership, overseeing organizational management, securing funding through fundraising, developing staff, and fostering community partnerships. This role requires a leader with strong ties to Colorado’s health and philanthropic communities—ideally someone with lived experience in Colorado’s Black communities and a deep understanding of the historical and systemic inequities impacting those communities.

PURPOSE / MISSION
CBHC’s mission is to achieve health equity in Colorado’s Black community. Since 2009, the organization has been at the forefront of culturally responsive health education, outreach, and advocacy. The Executive Director ensures that this mission is operationalized through strong partnerships, inclusive leadership, and responsive programming.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Strategic Vision
- Define and execute CBHC’s strategic direction in collaboration with the Board.
- Serve as the primary ambassador for CBHC across Colorado.
- Ensure alignment between organizational activities and mission.
Program Development & Community Engagement
- Oversee the development and implementation of health equity programs.
- Identify and respond to emerging community health needs.
- Engage deeply with Black communities to co-create solutions and amplify voices.
Team Leadership & Staff Management
- Supervise and support CBHC staff and contractors.
- Foster a collaborative, respectful, and inclusive workplace.
- Provide professional development opportunities and performance oversight.
Fundraising Strategy & Development
- Lead the design and implementation of fundraising strategies leveraging major gifts, grants, individual donations, corporate partnerships, planned giving, and special events to drive continued growth and impact.
- Cultivate relationships with major donors, foundations, and sponsors.
- Establish annual and multi-year fundraising targets and lead efforts to meet those goals, continuously evaluating fundraising efforts and making adjustments to improve performance.
- Actively identify new opportunities to expand revenue streams and leverage “Health Connections” to secure sustainable funding sources.
- Develop and oversee grant writing and reporting, ensuring compliance with funding requirements and developing strong relationships with institutional donors.
External Relationships & Partnerships
- Maintain and expand strategic partnerships with public, private, and nonprofit entities.
- Represent CBHC in coalitions, media, and community forums.
- Strengthen CBHC’s visibility and influence in statewide health equity conversations.
Financial Management & Oversight
- Oversee budget planning and financial reporting in coordination with the Treasurer.
- Ensure compliance with financial policies and best practices for nonprofits.
- Manage resources responsibly to support program and organizational growth.
Marketing & Communications
- Support the development of culturally responsive marketing and outreach strategies to enhance engagement and effectiveness.
- Serve as spokesperson for CBHC at public events and in the media.
- Ensure consistent brand messaging and communication across platforms.
Required Skills & Experience
- 3+ years of leadership experience in a nonprofit, public health, or community-based organization
- Demonstrated success in fundraising, grant writing, and major donor cultivation
- Deep knowledge of health equity issues affecting Black Coloradans
- Strong organizational and fiscal management skills
- Skilled in collaborative leadership, conflict resolution, and adaptive problem solving
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree (preferred) in public health, nonprofit management, social work, or a related field
- Direct experience working with various stakeholders and organizations, including nonprofits, schools, government entities, and community services.
- Understanding of health-related resources across the state
- Proven ability to lead diverse teams and work across sectors

WORK ENVIRONMENT & CULTURE
CBHC offers a hybrid, community-based work environment rooted in Black culture, wellness, and collaboration. The team is driven by shared values of equity, empathy, and excellence. The organization is based in Aurora, CO, with a requirement of at least two days (16 hours) of in-person work per week. Candidates must reside in Colorado or be willing to relocate.
TIME COMMITMENT
This is a full-time, exempt position (40 hours per week). Some evening and weekend hours may be required for events, meetings, or donor engagement. Occasional in-state travel (up to 10%) for conferences and community outreach.
