Located in southwest Colorado, Ouray County is known for its stunning scenery, vibrant arts and culture, and a thriving outdoor recreation economy. With just over 5,100 residents and two incorporated communities—the City of Ouray and the Town of Ridgway—the County blends small-town character with modern priorities and complex needs.
Appointed by a three-member Board of County Commissioners, the County Manager serves as the County’s top executive and Budget Officer. This role oversees a $24 M budget, 95 FTEs, and more than a dozen departments. The Manager is responsible for daily operations, financial stewardship, cross-departmental coordination, and implementation of BOCC policy.
The next Manager will champion organizational effectiveness, advance inclusive and collaborative practices, and foster a supportive environment where staff and community members feel heard and respected. They will bring a tech-forward mindset and a commitment to modernizing operations, enhancing internal systems, and improving workflow efficiencies.
Ouray County seeks a strategic and grounded leader who builds trust across departments, collaborates with elected officials and regional partners, and communicates transparently and diplomatically. A Bachelor’s degree is required (Master’s preferred), with at least seven years of experience in local government or senior leadership. Knowledge of Colorado governance, rural communities, and seasonal economies is strongly preferred.
The 2025 salary range is $150,659 – $188,324 DOQ, with excellent benefits, relocation support, and a 4-day workweek.
