Position Summary:

As a key member of our team, the Director of Government and Community Affairs will directly report to the President/CEO and take charge of government and external affairs responsibilities. Collaborating closely with internal departments, this role supports community activities and partnerships to advance the hospital's community engagement objectives. Responsibilities also include fostering strategic alliances with medical and community partners, actively engaging with relevant advocacy coalitions to advance issues of legislative importance that affect the hospital and its constituents, overseeing our accountability as a tax-exempt healthcare organization, and managing the Government and Community Affairs annual budget to optimize the impactful allocation of resources and assess return on investment (ROI).

Position Requirements:

  • Licensure/Certification/Registrations: None
  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Hospital Administration or a relevant field is required, a Master's preferred. A graduate of an accredited college or university is required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive leadership/management in an acute care/ neuroscience setting. Strong financial analysis and human resource experience and community partnership experience
  • Skills & Abilities: Minimum of 5+ years of progressive leadership, with an emphasis on external relations, government relations and/or public affairs. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong community partnership experience. Able to build trust among multiple stakeholders, as well as adapt to dynamic environments. Strong project management skills. Ability to think strategically and creatively. Ability to successfully handle multiple priorities, and schedule accordingly. Ability to work with multiple hospital departments to support their work and promote community impact. Comprehensive working knowledge of hospitals and healthcare management methods, general healthcare market trends, and the trends in the local and regional markets. Ability to rapidly process and comprehend large amounts of detailed information, consider the implications and consequences of new facts, and make decisions. Strategic planning and development of community engagement initiatives. Active involvement in promoting legislative efforts that are beneficial to their organization. The director must also be available to support community engagement events after normal business hours (after 5PM) and on weekends, as needed.

Essential Functions:

Strategic Partnerships

  • Identify, cultivate, and manage partnerships with external entities that align with our mission and can improve the experiences of those we serve.
  • Create community opportunities and awareness to promote equity for individuals with visible and non-visible disabilities.
  • Partner with the Director of Quality to oversee community Health Needs Assessment work and other key initiatives.
  • Partner with the Director of Strategy and other internal teams to facilitate community connections that support strategic partnership opportunities as needed and/or required.
  • Cultivate and build external partnerships and relationships to strengthen Craig’s connection within the local and national community.
  • Actively participate in service organizations, chambers of commerce, and neighborhood associations.
  • Collaborate with the Communications department to deliver community impact initiatives and messaging to internal and external stakeholders.

Government Relations/Advocacy

  • Actively engage in existing and proposed legislation through working alongside municipal, state, and federal government officials and lobbyists.  Update management on relevant laws and regulations in collaboration with Craig Hospital’s internal subject-matter experts, key external organizations and coalitions to ensure that Craig Hospital is not disproportionately impacted by proposed legislation and regulations.
  • Track all Craig-supported legislation.
  • Oversee disability advocacy, awareness, and community education.
  • Focus on local and national partnerships as appropriate and relevant to the organization’s strategic aims.

External Affairs/Community Relations/Community Benefit (CB)

  • Serve as a point of contact for community-related activities.
  • Create and execute events or participate in community events that promote brand awareness and community partnership/engagement.
  • Focus on cultivating positive relationships with local residents, governments, and businesses.
  • Focus locally and in top referral cities on community education and improvements related to health equity and access.
  • Create employee community volunteer opportunities.
  • Partner with CFO to ensure compliance with CB requirements.
  • Serve as an advocate, mentor, and resource for community opportunities.

Salary Range: $49.49/ Hour — $71.27/ Hour
