The Regional Air Quality Council is looking for a passionate and motivated individual to help us improve our region’s air quality and protect public health. The air quality in the Denver Metro Region and the Northern Front Range is one of the worst in the country due to summertime ground-level ozone pollution. Applicants who are beginning their careers in public policy, environmental advocacy, public health, or communications are encouraged to apply.
Company Overview:
The Regional Air Quality Council (RAQC) is the lead agency for air quality planning for the Denver Metro/North Front Range region. Established by the Colorado Governor’s Executive Order, the RAQC is a non-profit organization that develops air quality plans and initiatives with the input of local governments, the private sector, stakeholder groups and citizens. The RAQC also develops and administers air quality improving programs and outreach efforts to reduce emissions that degrade urban air quality and our climate. For more information regarding the RAQC and its programs, please visit our website at www.raqc.org.
Job Summary and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Communications, Programs, and Government Affairs Director, and in collaboration with other staff, the Clean Air Programs Coordinator supports RAQC’s public outreach programs. This role is ideal for applicants interested in gaining experience in managing community programs. This role will work with RAQC’s experienced program managers, learning about programs and then doing meaningful outreach work with them including working at public events, sending air quality alerts, tracking program budget expenses, and helping run RAQC’s well respected, public facing programs.
A few of RAQC’s signature programs:
- Accessible Bikes for Community (ABC): Plans and funds the initiation of shared e-bike libraries at low-income apartment buildings, benefiting residents and air quality by increasing access to healthy modes of transportation, reducing costs of commuting and running errands, and reducing vehicle miles traveled.
- Simple Steps. Better Air.: RAQC’s public education and engagement program, including a paid media campaign, tabling at events, and sending summer public safety ozone alerts to the public through email and text programs.
- Engines Off: RAQC’s anti-idling campaign, which offers grants to small businesses like food trucks to help them electrify, as well as school-based outreach to educate parents and school leaders about the harmful effects of vehicle idling for children.
- C.A.A.R: Clean Air Auto Repair (CAAR) offers no charge air quality related repairs to qualifying residents whose vehicles fail emissions.
- Mow Down Pollution: RAQC’s oldest continual program helps residents and small landscaping businesses swap out their gas-powered lawnmowers and other equipment, replacing them with clean electric alternatives.

This is a hybrid work position that involves some offsite work. All staff are expected to be present in the office at least one day each week (currently Tuesdays) as well as monthly board meetings and may work in the office or remotely on other days. Specific days/times required for in-person work may be set by RAQC leadership. The RAQC is a strong believer in hybrid work’s air quality benefits by reducing commutes and has no full-time return to office plans.
Work Hours: Typical office hours at 9-5 for in-office or remote days, with some flexibility as appropriate. Some weekends will be required, and weekend event hours vary. RAQC believes in a strong work-life balance: required weekends will be determined in advance and weekdays off will be included to ensure a true weekend break (2 days off in a row) as often as possible.
